teliospore = a thick-walled resting spore of
rusts and smuts in which karyogamy
occurs; it is part of the basidial apparatus
thallus = a relatively simple plant body devoid
of stems, roots, and leaves; in
fungi, the somatic phase (pl. thalli)
therapy = treatment of disease
treatment = mode of dealing with a person
or thing; more specifically, intervention
in the natural process in order to reduce
disease
tretic (conidiogenous cell) = apparently
enteroblastic, protrusion of the inner
wall taking place through one channel
or several channels in the outer wall.
The channels (or pores) can be seen
quite easily with an ordinary compound
microscope and although some recent
electron microscope studies indicate
that conidium development is not necessarily
strictly enteroblastic, their presence
provides a character most useful
to taxonomists. The continued use of
the term tretic is recommended.
