Ed Brennan ’51 Tapped To Keep
American Aloft
When the CEO of American Airlines
stepped down suddenly on April 24,
Ed Brennan ’51 was named to the interim
position of Executive Chairman. The airline
is seeking to resolve business problems and
avoid a bankruptcy filing. Ed is a longtime
member of American’s board and the
former CEO of Sears, Roebuck & Company.
An article that appeared in the Chicago Tribune quoted
business leaders who have worked with Ed previously as
saying, “He has a calm, steady hand. He has the patience to get
the job done.” And “He is the perfect person to be in charge
of something as important as American Airlines at a time
things are not going well.”

RON JACINTO graduated from the
University of Notre Dame and began
Army Training a few months later. He
was assigned to Republic of Korea
where he met future wife Kei, a
Japanese national. They were married
in early 1998 and came back to the
U.S. where Ron went to work for the
WRAIR (“the people from the movie
Outbreak”). They have two children,
Kenny and Hana, and Ron has his own
business and is a Navy contractor.

TODD DAVIS earned an MBA from
DePaul University and now works in
marketing for Chicago Asset
Management’s Mutual Funds after five
years at Marco Consulting.

Trifilio in July of 2002 and teaches at
Hinsdale Central High School.

KEVIN MURPHY is Social Studies
Department Chair at Assumption
High School and also Athletic Director
for the Diocese of Davenport Catholic
elementary schools. He and his wife
Bridget are expecting their first child
at the end of May 2003.

KRISTEN D’ARCY, a Marketing
Communications Associate at Smith,
Bucklin & Associates, is engaged to
Jonathan McAloon. The wedding date
is set for November 8, 2003.
Future Crime Fighters
Jim Sperandio ’85, a detective with the Oak Park Police force,
teaches a once-a-week, after-school, non-credit course at
Fenwick called “Street Law,” that explores different aspects of
the criminal justice system, including solving crimes. Students
have chosen to take the course for various reasons: They want
possibly to… be “a cop, like my grandfather”…be a Navy
SEAL…serve in the the FBI… study law.
Additions and Corrections
In the last issue of FENWICK magazine, we assembled
news about four of Fenwick’s seven Michael Sullivan’s. Since
then, we have news about one more. Mike Sullivan ’81
is married to Tracy Hughes Sullivan, has a two-year-old
daughter named Maeve, and works for the City of Chicago.
In the last issue, a photo (below) taken at the Class of ‘76
reunion mistakenly identified the alum on the left as
Paul Clark. The first person to send us his real identity
wins a $5 gift certificate for the Friar Shop.

In the Honor Roll of Donors, an asterisk* was used to
indicate Friars that are deceased. The very good news is that
Chuck Tracy ’35, although an asterisk appeared after his
name, is alive and well and has been enjoying Florida this
past winter.
Rev. Joseph Hren, O.P., and Rev. Richard LaPata, O.P., ’50
joined members of the Justinian Society as they awarded Circuit
Court Judge Joseph Casciato ’67 the 2002 Justinian Award of
Excellence. (Left to right) Tony Romanucci ’78, president of
the Society; John Sciaccotta ’80, treasurer; Judge Casciato;
Fr. Hren; Fr. LaPata; and Richard Caldarazzo ’66. The Justinian
Society, which is the largest ethnic bar association in the
country, raises money each year to donate to children’s causes.
Election Results
Pat Quinn ’67 is Illinois Lieutenant Governor.
Dan Cronin ’77 represents the 21st District in
the Illinois Senate.
