are shown vertically yielding a flat MT lattice. “Alpha” states of tubulin (Figure<br />

8.10) are shown by “a,” beta states by a dot. 4 contiguous beta states are<br />

highlighted by diamond patterns, 4 contiguous alpha states by darkened dots.<br />

The simulation sequence (generations 40, 45, 55 and 70) shows movement of<br />

patterns at velocity of 80 nanometers per nanosecond (80 meters per second).<br />
