About the Conflict and Development Series

The Conflict and Development Series is published by the
Journal of Alternative Perspectives in the Social Sciences with the
twin goals of promoting the fruitful exploration of the relationship
between conflict and development, and to provide a suitable medium
for the diffusion of marginalized perspectives. Moreover, the Series
aims to help promote the formation of an alternative epistemic
community of scholars and practitioners. Some of the principles of the
previously mentioned alternative community are: a more egalitarian
access to research findings, a democratization of the publication
process, and an increased openness to alternative paradigms and
perspectives.
One of the concrete ways in which the Conflict and
Development Series aims to help in the creation of an alternative
epistemic community is by making all of of the publications openly
available at no cost for download. Print copies will also be available for
a nominal fee with all the proceeds going to help cover the costs of
publishing more works by scholars in need of financial assistance. In
terms of the content of the works to be included in the series,
contributions by scholars from the developing world will be prioritized
as well as critical research. Conflict and Development are probably
the two most important concerns for both the populations and leaders
of the developing world and thus their exploration was chosen as the
topic of this series.
In summary the Conflict and Development Series of the Journal
of Alternative Perspectives in the Social Sciences aims to complement
the Journal as well as promote the trend away from the commercial
model of publication and towards the “open access” movement.
Readers are encouraged to share our publications with their
colleagues and students as well as to propose new volumes and
projects.
