The Conflict and Development Series<br />

About <strong>the</strong> Conflict and Development Series<br />

By Otto F. von Feigenblatt, Series Editor<br />

The Conflict and Development Series is published by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> Alternative Perspectives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Social Sciences with <strong>the</strong><br />

tw<strong>in</strong> goals <strong>of</strong> promot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fruitful exploration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> relationship<br />

between conflict and development, and to provide a suitable medium<br />

for <strong>the</strong> diffusion <strong>of</strong> marg<strong>in</strong>alized perspectives. Moreover, <strong>the</strong> Series<br />

aims to help promote <strong>the</strong> formation <strong>of</strong> an alternative epistemic<br />

community <strong>of</strong> scholars and practitioners. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

previously mentioned alternative community are: a more egalitarian<br />

access to research f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, a democratization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> publication<br />

process, and an <strong>in</strong>creased openness to alternative paradigms and<br />

perspectives.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> concrete ways <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> Conflict and<br />

Development Series aims to help <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> creation <strong>of</strong> an alternative<br />

epistemic community is by mak<strong>in</strong>g all <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> publications openly<br />

available at no cost for download. Pr<strong>in</strong>t copies will also be available for<br />

a nom<strong>in</strong>al fee with all <strong>the</strong> proceeds go<strong>in</strong>g to help cover <strong>the</strong> costs <strong>of</strong><br />

publish<strong>in</strong>g more works by scholars <strong>in</strong> need <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance. In<br />

terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> works to be <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> series,<br />

contributions by scholars from <strong>the</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g world will be prioritized<br />

as well as critical research. Conflict and Development are probably<br />

<strong>the</strong> two most important concerns for both <strong>the</strong> populations and leaders<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g world and thus <strong>the</strong>ir exploration was chosen as <strong>the</strong><br />

topic <strong>of</strong> this series.<br />

In summary <strong>the</strong> Conflict and Development Series <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Journal</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> Alternative Perspectives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Social Sciences aims to complement<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Journal</strong> as well as promote <strong>the</strong> trend away from <strong>the</strong> commercial<br />

model <strong>of</strong> publication and towards <strong>the</strong> “open access” movement.<br />

Readers are encouraged to share our publications with <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

colleagues and students as well as to propose new volumes and<br />
