programmes for the region. Government could do this in
conjunction with assistance of the oil multi-national companies
operating in the region.
6 Obnoxious acts such as the land use act of 1978 should be
revoked. That is one of the basic factors that tend to deny the
people their rights to make claims to their land and which tend
to deny the people’s right of control over the resources that
pertain to the land thereof.
7 Government and oil companies should devise regulatory
mechanisms to ensure that allocation and compensation to the
oil-bearing communities actually get to the people of the
communities.
