Dear Class of 1962,
As members of the class of 1962, you will be the first Good Counsel class to celebrate
their 50th class reunion, and the preparations for the celebration are underway.
A reunion committee has been working hard to make your 50th class reunion a truly
memorable occasion. I hope you will be able to join your classmates for this very
special celebration. It is a wonderful opportunity to renew old friendships and catch
up on each other's lives over the past years.
Leading up to the reunion activities in 2012, the Alumni Office will be printing a
50th reunion newsletter. This newsletter will provide you with the preliminary
information necessary to make your plans to attend and to become involved!
The goal for your class is participation! In order to increase the number of
participants at the reunion events, members of the planning committee have agreed
to contact classmates by phone or email to update contact information, but also to
communicate upcoming reunion information.
You can also contact the Alumni Office (Augustyn@olgchs.org) if you would like to
help reach out to classmates, or if you would like to serve on the planning committee.
Sincerely,
Monica Augustyn
Ed Branagan is a retired health physicist from U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission,
and Dept. of Energy. Volunteers as an English as a 2 nd language teacher and math tutor.
Likes to jog, travel (most recently in Russia), learn Spanish, and get together with
GC, Catholic U., and Kansas U. friends.
Will Rinaldi and his wife, Meredith, retired to the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain
in 2004 to watch the seasons slowly pass by. Unfortunately, Will says
that at our age the seasons seem to be rushing by. Will is nearly completely
recovered from a serious back injury that he suffered last February when his
kitchen ceiling collapsed during Snowmageddon 2010. Last winter saw close
to 70” of snow so keeping a close eye on the weather channel and hoping the
white stuff stays in South Dakota & Buffalo where it belongs. He is looking
forward to the various activities planned 50th and hoping to see as many old
f___s from around the country as can make it.
Brother Bill Griffin, CFX loves the awesome world of 48 years of ministry
that his life as a Xaverian Brother has opened to him. He currently runs a
parish in South Baltimore, MD., St. Rose of Lima after three years as a missionary
in Kenya, East Africa, over thirty years teaching and administering Xaverian
Brothers and other Catholic high schools in Brooklyn, New York, Baltimore Maryland
and Washington DC. He gives most of the credit for such an exciting life to the Xaverian
Brothers, the coaches and teachers who inspired him at OLGC back in its infancy
when the class of 1962 and the school were born one day in September, 1958.
Bob Marchone is retired from the Federal Government in January 2008 with 43 years of
service, 4 years Navy and 39 years at the Government Printing Office. In his retirement,
Bob is playing more golf, still playing softball (in the senior leagues, except last year when
he had knee replacement surgery), and traveling with his wife. They went to Brookings,
(Continued on page 3)
(Continued from page 2)
Oregon and Italy last year along with other visits to Treasure Island, Sarasota, and Placida, Florida; Ocean City, MD; Myrtle
Beach, SC: and a couple of other places. Except for the winter months, Bob is working part time in the Pro Shop at
Laytonsville Golf Course. This year Bob has traveled to Myrtle Beach for a little golf with another trip there planned for
March. He and his wife have talked about going to FL for 4-6 weeks this winter but nothing is finalized at this time.
Dave Gardner is 8+ years into his third career, financial officer for the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, hoping to
finally retire in 2 - 4 years. He and his wife, Shirley, live in Columbia and are about to celebrate their 43rd
anniversary. Dave’s son, Dave Jr., is a program manager with the Federal Centers for Medicare Services, and his daughter,
Susan, is a PhD psychology professor. Between the two of them, they have given Dave and Shirley three beautiful, brilliant
and healthy granddaughters. Hoping to see lots of long unseen faces at our upcoming 50th reunion.
Richard Urban and his wife Carol are both retired and find plenty of activities to keep themselves busy including 7
grandchildren -- 3 in the VA area and 2 in Atlanta, GA and 2 more in Normal, IL. He had an opportunity to move out of
his comfort zone this past summer with a wilderness retreat. The retreat involved a week of camping out in a tent and learning
how to rock climb at Seneca Rocks, WV. It was a physically and mentally challenging week but well worth the ah-ha experience
of reaching the summit. Postscript: The comfort zone has its advantages though.
