The Course<br />
The Bachelor of Science in <strong>Leadership</strong> &<br />
<strong>Management</strong> degree prepares c<strong>and</strong>idates to work<br />
in the areas of general management, health care<br />
management, <strong>and</strong> management of non<br />
profit organisations, public relations,<br />
public administration <strong>and</strong> related fields. It<br />
is designed to meet the current need for<br />
managers with broad based training <strong>and</strong><br />
ability to lead change <strong>and</strong> development in<br />
organisations.<br />

The Bachelor of Science in <strong>Leadership</strong> &<br />
<strong>Management</strong> degree programme aims to<br />
achieve the following:<br />
(a) To enhance students’ capability to<br />
take a leading role in the processes<br />
of contemporary organisational<br />
development <strong>and</strong> change.<br />
(b) To enhance the ability to critically<br />
evaluate business <strong>and</strong> management<br />
issues <strong>and</strong> develop solutions from<br />
the moral, professional <strong>and</strong> practical<br />
perspectives.<br />
(c) To instill a problem-solving attitude<br />
<strong>and</strong> business ethics in the practice of<br />
management.<br />
(d) To prepare the c<strong>and</strong>idates for<br />
progression to higher levels of study.<br />
Careers<br />
The course is structured to reflect the<br />
changes taking place in organisations<br />
today <strong>and</strong> to provide a firm foundation<br />
for the world of work. It also considers<br />
the necessary academic subjects <strong>and</strong><br />
consideration of ethical principles <strong>and</strong><br />
general studies that should influence<br />
decision-making in an organisation. The<br />
curriculum incorporates courses in<br />
information technology to help meet the<br />
requirements of today’s professions <strong>and</strong><br />
also the projected continued influence<br />
of information technology in conducting<br />
business. Courses in humanities <strong>and</strong> ethics<br />
are included to address the need for a<br />
broader consideration of issues in decisionmaking.<br />
Students can choose an area of<br />
specialisation in any of the following<br />
three areas: Public Administration; Health<br />
Care <strong>Management</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Management</strong> of<br />
Non‐profit Organisations.<br />
Target Groups<br />
(a) Applicants who would like to posses<br />
qualifications in <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Management</strong>.<br />
(b) The programme is also open to<br />
professionals who posses relevant<br />
qualifications for admission to a degree<br />
programme <strong>and</strong> are interested in<br />
developing a career in leadership <strong>and</strong><br />
management.<br />
(c) School leavers who have attained<br />
the minimum qualifications to start a<br />
career in business <strong>and</strong> management.<br />

Education Financing<br />
To help you manage your education financing,<br />
<strong>Strathmore</strong> has partnered with Commercial<br />
Bank of Africa <strong>and</strong> the World Bank’s International<br />
Finance Corporation to offer low-interest loans to<br />
students pursuing degrees <strong>and</strong> diplomas at the<br />
<strong>University</strong>. Students can also get loans from<br />
the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).<br />
Learning Facilities<br />
E-Learning<br />
<strong>Strathmore</strong> <strong>University</strong> is a pioneer in<br />
the use of ICT. Our e-learning system<br />
enables students to view the coursework<br />
material that lecturers have posted, submit<br />
their finished assignments, update their<br />
calendars, interact <strong>and</strong> chat with fellow<br />
students, participate in various fora <strong>and</strong><br />
communicate with their lecturer. Students<br />
have access to numerous computer<br />
laboratories, unlimited Internet, a wide<br />
range of software <strong>and</strong> e-mail. A wireless<br />
network enables students with laptops<br />
access to the network from various<br />
locations around the campus.<br />
Library<br />
The library complex <strong>and</strong> reading room are<br />
spacious, with an atmosphere that is highly<br />
conducive to private study <strong>and</strong> research.<br />
The wide range of material contributes<br />
to the university’s excellent academic<br />
performance. The library system is available<br />
online.<br />
Entry<br />
Requirements<br />
A c<strong>and</strong>idate must satisfy any of the<br />
following requirements:<br />
(a) Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent<br />
examination) certificate with a<br />
minimum aggregate of C+ <strong>and</strong> a<br />
minimum of C in both Mathematics<br />
<strong>and</strong> English, or<br />
(b) Be a holder of KACE certificate with a<br />
minimum of two principal passes <strong>and</strong><br />
one subsidiary pass, <strong>and</strong> a minimum<br />
of a credit pass in Mathematics <strong>and</strong><br />
English at KCE.<br />
(c) Be a holder of a diploma or<br />
professional certificate in a relevant<br />
discipline from an institution<br />
recognised by the Academic Council<br />
of the <strong>University</strong>, or<br />
(d) Be a holder of any other qualification<br />
accepted by the Academic Council of<br />
the <strong>University</strong> as equivalent to any of<br />
the above.<br />
Exemptions <strong>and</strong> Credit Transfer<br />
ILM, DLM, DBM holders are exempted at<br />
the the discretion of <strong>University</strong> Academic<br />
Council. They get 1½ years exemptions.<br />
