One of the attractions in the
Chamber of Commerce building
was the “Hamburg Architects in China“
exhibition. It was dedicated to a single
project, the city of Lingang, designed on
the drawing board for 300,000 people
60 kilometres south-west of Shanghai.
It is under construction in an exclusive
location on the Pacific right next to the
newly opened largest container port in
Asia as a location for various new
universities and administrative centres.
The architecture is made in Hamburg.
“As if it were born out of a single drop”
is how the famous Hamburg-based
architect Meinhard von Gerkan describes
his master plan, which has been
under construction since 2002 under
the aegis of six Gerkan pupils, the
“Hamburg architects.”
