A Visit to Carsons
Carsonʼs store was established
in 1907 and later was
conserved as a 1950ʼs diner.
Located in the middle of the
scenic Village of Noank, CT,
Carsonʼs store sells a delightful
selection of breakfast and lunch
pleasures, with varieties including
local beef from the Black
“R” beef Co. located in North
Stonington, Old fashioned Ice
cream from Bucks ice cream in
Milford, CT and coming soon to
Carsonʼs is… Fresh Oysters
from Mystic Oyster Company,
Noank, CT!
When we walk into
Carsonʼs, we feel like weʼve
time traveled to yesteryear. The
electric lime and ivory art deco
moldings are exactly where
they belong in the 2000ʼs, not
nearly out of place. The evergreen
barstools (an all around
favorite place to sit on Sunday
mornings,) are always jampacked
with the morning coffee
crew. Jars of candy galore take
their spot just beneath the large
black board that lists the available
ice cream flavors. A rack
of newspapers sits to the left of
the slush machine and penny
candy machines have taken
their place next to the screen
door.
Kellyʼs favorite breakfast at
Carsonʼs is a three way tie
between: a single stack of blueberry
pancakes; the Wildman
(two eggs cooked to order,
home fries choice of bacon,
sausage, or ham, toast and
either two pancakes or two
slices of French toast served
with syrup and butter); and last
but not least, the original
omelet (two fillings, with home
fries and toast). Annieʼs favorite
is the egg and cheese on an
English muffin. Her brother
Jordieʼs favorite is the chocolate
chip pancakes. (Oh, and he
says “Hi Mom!”)

If laughter and happy chit chat
were a song, it would be the
only one playing at Carsonʼs.
Whether itʼs during the breakfast
rush or afternoon time
when packs of hungry teens
are there for lunch, simple good
times are always accompanied
by the sounds of coffee brewing,
bacon crackling, and the
friendly order swapping
between co-workers. We know
firsthand what itʼs like. As this
“symphony” of casual, fun dining
plays in the background, the
smell of delicious, simple, classic
dishes made to order fill the
air.
Kelly and her dad like to go to
Carsonʼs together when the rest
of their family is still asleep. A
delicious start to the day can
make you forget that the dog
woke you up at 7:30 in the
morning and helps you forget
that youʼre still tired. Every
time you walk into that 50ʼs
diner you may say “Wow!”(Well,
of course not out loud, but definitely
in your head.)
Carsonʼs has a way of making
you feel warm and bubbly
inside, itʼs kind of like when you
fake smile and then wind up
smiling for real. Maybe itʼs that
authentic 50ʼs look, or maybe
the waitresses who know your
order before you even say it,
but it makes you feel special.
Like out of the millions of people
on this planet, youʼre the
one who fixed global warming
or made world peace!
