We would like to send
thanks to our GLP NEWS
columnist, Katy Reed of “Katyʼs
Kitchen,” who despite three,
pesky, painful surgeries on her
elbow has continued to worry
about her column but hasnʼt
missed a word. Thanks for your
efforts, Katy....... Good news!
Speaking of surgeries, friends
of Elaine Williamson who is
undergoing further surgery on
her knees, are happy to hear
that finally things seem to be
going well for Elaine. It has
been a long haul but she is
beginning to see an end to the
problems that she has had for a
couple of years....
We got a few calls from residents
on Main Beach about the
sand on the boardwalk. It
seems that since Superstorm
Sandy the boardwalk has been
inundated with sand. With a
real boardwalk the sand would
trickle through the boards and
back onto the beach. But on a
concrete boardwalk it canʼt do
that. So we ask that any residents
on Main Beach, including
renters, please just take a
broom and swoosh that sand
HEAR N THERE
back down onto the beach......
More good news.. Shelly and
Mark Youngʼs son, Matt, has
just gotten engaged to Courtney
Thompson. Matt did the
whole getting on one knee thing
which Courtney loved..... And
she said “yes!”.... Great article
in The Day last week on GLPʼs
Doug Volgenau. Dougʼs Naval
Academy classmates from
1959 put together a book about
their Navy experiences and the
classmate who inspired them.
That classmate is now Rear
Admiral Doug Volgenau. As a
midshipman Admiral Volgenau
was the 8th Company commander
and he led the company
to the title of best in the
brigade. The book his classmates
put together is a collection
of short life accounts written
by 37 members of his class.
Some of his classmates came
to GLP to present to Admiral
Volgenau the first copy of the
book entitled, “Sea Stories
From the Color Company.” The
presentation was made “in
grateful appreciation for your
superb leadership at the Naval
Academy, in the Navy and most
of all for your inspiration and
your continued friendship with
each of us.” We, too, at The
GLP NEWS would like to congratulate
Admiral Volgenau and
to tell him that he makes all of
us at GLP proud of him, too!.....
Donʼt forget, if your old flag is
ready to be thrown out there is
a box near the mailboxes
where you can put it and it will
be retired in a respectful way.
