may be subject to adjustment.
NEW THIS YEAR: 2 WAYS TO RE-ENROLL YOUR CHILDREN AT THE CINCINNATI WALDORF SCHOOL!
OPTION 1: Complete and Return your Enrollment Contract along with a check for $400 (Enrollment Deposit of
$350 and FACTS Fee of $50) by Friday, February 4, 2011. You will receive the enrollment contract in the mail in
late January. When you submit your paperwork to Maria Schade in the Business Office, we ask you take the
time to review your child’s student file to make any necessary updates. If you are unable to update the student
file at that time, there will be several additional opportunities scheduled during the remainder of the school
year when you can stop in the Main Office to update your child's student file.
OPTION 2: If you do not return your signed Enrollment Contract and Enrollment Deposit by February 1 st , you
must attend contract signing day on Thursday, February 10 th . Contract signing will be held in the cafeteria from
8am to 4:30pm.

Tuition Schedule for 2011-2012 is as follows:
Nursery 5day $6,255
Nursery 3day $5,180
Kindergarten 5day $6,255
Kindergarten 3day $5,484
Nursery 2day $3,543
Grade 1-Grade 3 $9,667
Grade 4-Grade 8 $10,135
Sibling Discount: Siblings receive a 10% (2 nd child), 20% (3 rd child) or 30% (4 th child or greater) discount.
Families enrolled prior to the 2009-10 school year will be grandfathered in and continue to receive a 20%
discount for each additional child enrolled in CWS through their tenure with the school.
New this year: Grade School Student Fees. These fees will provide the Cincinnati Waldorf School faculty the
ability to plan class experiences both inside and outside the classroom based on a fixed, secure fund per
student. Class trips include such field experiences as theater productions, Pentathlon, Medieval Games,
Renaissance trip, canoe trip, ropes courses, climbing trip, camping, farm block experience, pumpkin patch, etc.
Parents will not be asked for additional fees throughout the school year to cover class experiences including
fieldtrips with the exception of the Grade 8 Class Trip. Remaining fees necessary for the Grade 8 Trip will be
earned by each individual family with the hope that a family will encourage their student to earn the remaining
amount via home & community service (i.e.: child care services, home chores, summer work, etc.). The
remaining fees necessary will be determined by the end of Grade 7.
Student fees are collected as part of the tuition contract and accounted for through the CWS budget. Student
fees may be paid in full in June directly to CWS or may be included as part of a family’s FACTS tuition payment
agreement. Any unused annual student fees are rolled over into the Grade 8 Trip fund for that particular class.
Students who leave CWS prior to grade 8 will not receive fee reimbursements. Forfeited fees will roll into the
Grade 8 Trip fund for each particular class.
Grade School Student Fees for 2011-2012:
Grade One $50 Grade Five $200
Grade Two $100 Grade Six $300
Grade Four $150 Grade Eight $300

must go through the regular admissions process. Please fill out an application for Early Childhood Enrollment
CWS Request for Proposal
The CWS Administrative Team announces the Requests for Proposals on a potential renovation project for our
current Eurythmy classroom. We are seeking professional contractors to bid on a proposal to renovate the
current eurythmy classroom to include a proper-shaped space that is square rather than the current
rectangular shape that cannot ideally accommodate necessary classroom movement patterns. While Ms.

Michael, our Eurythmy teacher, continues to do an excellent job with the space she has been given, it is our
hope to consider the ideal space for the eurythmy program.
If you or someone you know is a professional contractor and are interested in submitting a proposal on this
potential project to possibly begin this summer, please contact Christine Masur at either 513-541-0220
extension 101 or via email at cmasur@cinciwaldorf.org. Thank you for helping us spread the word and
sharing your personal recommendations of contractors!
Andrea Cheng, an award-winning author, will be visiting the Cincinnati Waldorf School again on Friday, January
21 st , from 12:00 – 3:00.
Her presentation will be in the 8 th grade classroom. The focus of her presentation will be to the 7 th and 8 th
graders; however, all adult community members are welcome to attend.
Ms. Cheng has published several multicultural picture books, middle-grade chapter books, as well as young
adult novels. The daughter of Hungarian immigrants, Mrs. Cheng grew up in Cincinnati among extended family
members, most of whom had survived the Holocaust. She studied Chinese at Cornell University and
apprenticed to a bookmaker in Switzerland. Currently she teaches English as a Second Language at Cincinnati
State and lives with her three children and her husband, Jim, the son of Chinese immigrants.
One of Andrea Cheng’s novels, Marika, is the story of a young Jewish girl living in Hungary during the Nazi
occupation. The young girl is successfully hidden and survives. Ms. Cheng wrote this story about her mother
who, at 82 years old still teaches every day. Ms. Cheng’s mother, Marika, will be accompanying her on this visit.
The focus of this presentation will be on Marika’s story of survival and the inspiration from meeting Marika
herself.
Please join us for this inspirational presentation!
Great Fund Raising Opportunity from Living Crafts Magazine
Dear Friends:
As a former Waldorf school administrator and mother of a Waldorf alumna, I’m excited to extend your school a
fundraising offer from Living Crafts magazine. We believe that this offer will provide added value to your
community members while raising funds for your school.

Living Crafts was borne out of a passion for handwork and, in particular, an interest in the natural crafts that are
so prevalent among Waldorf schools. Living Crafts is the only craft magazine aligned with a Waldorf lifestyle,
which makes it a perfect fit for your families. If you are not already familiar with the magazine, please visit our
web site at www.LivingCrafts.com for details.
We would like to offer your school the opportunity to receive $7 for each subscription ordered between now
and February 14. As an added incentive for community members to participate, subscribers will receive one
extra issue (retail value $6.99) with their subscription.
This offer might be ideal for a class-specific fundraiser (as opposed to using it to augment your Annual Giving
fund), but it would be entirely up to you, of course, to decide how to use the funds.
I understand that some fundraising efforts seem to take more time to administer than they are worth. For this
reason, we have crafted (pun intended!) this fundraiser to be as seamless as possible for you. Here’s how it
works:
1. You announce the offer to your school’s community and make the subscription forms available in
your office and/or on your school’s web site (or provide them with a link to the forms on our web site).
The forms can be downloaded from our web site here:
http://www.livingcrafts.com/page/School_Fundraising
2. Parents (and other community members) submit completed subscription forms to the office.
3. The office holds onto the completed forms until the February 14 deadline and then sends the
batch (along with a batch cover sheet) to Living Crafts. The batch cover sheet can also be downloaded
from our web site here: http://www.livingcrafts.com/page/School_Fundraising
4. Living Crafts processes the subscriptions and sends a check for the total donation amount to the
school within 30 days of receiving the subscription batch.
Because checks are made payable to Living Crafts, there’s no individual payments for you to deposit and track.
(Your bookkeeper will love you for it!) In addition, you can direct questions about the offer to us to ease the
burden on your office staff. The school earns money, parents get a free issue of a magazine they love, and the
magazine’s sustainability is supported.
If you are interested in taking us up on this special offer, please let me know so that I can answer any questions
you may have and, if you like, send you some sample articles that you can cut and paste into your newsletter,
email, or community letter to announce the offer.
Best wishes for a restful holiday break!
Sincerely yours,
Meredith Hunnibell
Missing:
Someone picked up little Max Mergner's snowboard right before Holiday Break and the family was unable to
find it after searching inside and out at CWS. It does have his name on it, silver shoe buckles and is much missed
… If you know its whereabouts, please notify Michele Mergner at stripeandyellow@yahoo.com. Thanks!

School Choice Legislation Update
A group of Ohio legislators introduced a bill in December that would award $20 million in tax credits for tuition
scholarships that would then be awarded to low and middle income students who wish to attend or continue
attending a private school. If your family would be directly affected by this legislation or you would like to learn
more about it, we encourage you to visit School Choice’s website here: http://scohio.org/.
