Organizing 101: Applicant to Advocate<br />
Individuals who benefit from a service are naturally positioned to be the best advocates <strong>for</strong><br />
that program. Empowering individuals to move from applicant to advocate can be very<br />
powerful and effective. In this session you will learn how to engage clients in framing<br />

community issues and how to best organize to create solutions. You will also be provided<br />
with practical tips to guide your organization in developing successful partnerships with the<br />
people you serve.<br />

Addressing hunger is about more than pounds of food distributed. There is a strong<br />
correlation between food insecurity and obesity and other health related problems. Come<br />
learn about the connection between hunger and health as well as ef<strong>for</strong>ts the Feeding<br />
<strong>Colorado</strong> food banks are undertaking to address bringing healthy foods to food insecure<br />
families throughout the state.<br />

ensuring clients are protected during the process.<br />

Backpacks…from A to Z*<br />
Developing a successful Backpack Program begins by answering a series of questions: Is<br />
there a need among the food-insecure service population What specific age group and<br />
areas are to be targeted What is the source of food and the allocated cost What <strong>for</strong>m of<br />
food carrier (backpacks/sacks/etc.) and their cost What are the potential days of service<br />
How are distribution sites secured Who determines recipients The panel will address these<br />
and many other questions.<br />

More than one in seven seniors face the threat of hunger each day in the U.S. and it is<br />
expected that 20% of <strong>Colorado</strong>’s population will be aged 60 or older by 2020. Learn where<br />
our state stands in serving this growing population of Coloradans as well as how you can get<br />
involved to meet immediate needs and create sustainable solutions to prevent a future crisis.<br />
Your organization can take steps now to prepare <strong>for</strong> and combat this issue in the not-toodistant<br />
