Calling all Rainbow Magic fans! Join the newest group of fairy friends, The Sporty<br />

Fairies, as they whisk you on an adventure to Fairyland. Dress as your favourite fairy<br />

Let’s Recycle Grandad and I Don’t Want an Avocado <strong>for</strong> an Uncle are chock-full of<br />

silly stories, strange relatives and funny words. Join the two award-winning and<br />

irreverent poets, Chrissie Gittins and Roger Stevens as they play havoc with<br />

words. Even the poetry-phobic will find something to laugh about in this highly<br />

entertaining event.<br />

Once Upon a Fairy Tale<br />

Once upon a time… they lived happily ever after. Dress as your favourite fairy-tale<br />

character and listen to enchanting tales of magic spells, wicked witches and<br />

charming princes, then create your own fairy-tale-inspired crafts to take home.<br />

Katie and the British Artists<br />

with James Mayhew<br />

Imagine you could climb through a picture frame and explore inside a painting.<br />

Well that’s exactly what Katie does, although she always gets in a muddle.<br />

Author and illustrator James Mayhew will show you how famous paintings can<br />

come to life in this imaginative, fun and educational event.<br />

musicians Ibrahima Sagna and Suzanne Amey create an uplifting, rhythmic journey<br />

through the folk tales and myths of Senegal.<br />

Even the youngest children can enjoy the rhythm and rhyme of words using hands-on<br />

touch books and nursery rhymes to explore texture, shape and sound. (Also on 13 Aug)<br />

The faint of heart better beware as the master of horror descends upon the Book<br />

Festival this summer! Darren Shan’s tales are the stuff of nightmares – be prepared<br />

<strong>for</strong> gruesome exploits and edge-of-your-seat suspense as he reads from the lastest<br />

instalment of the Demonata, Death’s Shadow.<br />
