FLY PRESSES Fly Presses John Crouchet at his Fly press. Be sure to check out our Fly Press Tooling and Accessories and Fly Press DVD (page 126) by John Crouchet. Fly Press C Frame Model All fly presses have an extra heavy cast frame, with ribbed construction and cast tapered central ram and machined guideways and is easily adjustable against wear and tear. The bed is provided with heavy duty adjustable steel die holding clamps which will preserve your dies and allows easy indexing of your die and tool. The base hole is adjustable with bushings to suit different jobs. The large hole is available by easily removing smaller ring in the base. The top end of the screw has hexagonal tapered reception for the wheel to ensure no-slipping. This allows quick & easy repositioning of fly wheel and handle. Mild steel screw with heavy duty square angular thread and threaded die hole. The adjustable clutch allows the fly wheel to stay put when you back it up. You don't have to worry about the handle spinning down on you while you change tooling. This is done with the interplay of the two nuts on top of the ram. It is up to you to make this adjustment, but it can be done in a couple of minutes. Applications of Fly Presses: Punching, Cutting, Chiseling, Fullering, Pressing, Slitting, Drifting, Bending, Stamping, Deep Drawing, Texturing & Surface Ornamentation, Straightening, Open and Closed Die Work, Bending Large Stock in Graceful Arcs, and Cones or Corkscrew Like Shapes. Combine these forms to add a new dimension to your work. Break into the high end architectural, furniture, lighting or sculpture markets. Great for furniture (tables, beds, chairs, etc.) Ornamental Ironwork like: gates, railings, fences and much more. If you have a repetitive element to make, just weld up the top profile and insert it into the top hole in the ram. Place the bottom profile on the press bed. Insert the hot steel in between the top and bottom tools and with a motion like closing a refrigerator door, out pops your repetitive element. Can't get much easier than that. See the photo at the left. Think of the drudgery, time and money you'll save and how much faster you can make your various elements. No electricity required. No noise either. The only limitation is your imagination and initiative. What the fly press really means to the shop owner is PROFIT! Less time doing repetitive jobs, more time working on new jobs or spending time with friends and family. What this also means is now you can take on more jobs and perform processes previously impossible using other means or without a helper on hand and lot of time getting it right. C-Frame Features: • Two die clips for the base to hold tooling or dies to the base • Large round flywheel • No Ball weight style head bangers • One handle rod • Single sided frame. FLY PRESS ACCESSORIES & TOOLING Fly Press Accessories & Tooling Pieh Legacy Collection Pieh Tool Fly Press Stand Item # PTFPST Fly Press Stand Our sturdy stand was designed by John Crouchet (DVD5 How to use a Fly Press) is manufactured at Pieh Tool Company from A36 steel. The legs are angled to give more stability and strength and are made from 2” hot rolled steel welded tubing. The 1” welded diagonal support bars on three sides provide the added strength needed to handle the constant counter clockwise turning force of the fly press. The front has a 1” cross section bar providing strength while also allowing you to sit close to your press with legs underneath. The front opening of the table allows for easy cleaning and room to keep your tooling handy. The vertical welded 1-1/2” sections on three sides keeps your tools safe from falling onto the floor. Fits our #5 and #6 presses. We recommend you bolt the stand to your floor. We will modify the table top holes to accommodate other size presses on request. Stand is left unpainted. Table Height: 31”; Table Size: 24 X 24 X 3/8”; Footprint: 39 X 36”; Weighs 122 lbs. Ships motor freight only. We can customize other sizes! (Item #KSNT1-1) We left it soft so that the veining chisels or ball punches would not be damaged. 3 1/2” OAH, 2-3/8” x 2”. Has a 1” shank. Fuller Set Side Butcher Fly Press Stand Used fly presses, with high quality screws that aren't worn out, are hard to find. Many of the used machines don't have a steep enough pitch to the screw. This means that you must have multiple revolutions of the fly wheel. Our presses are designed, from the ground up, for forging. Note, the screw only requires a bump on the handle that hangs down from the fly wheel. For bigger jobs try a full revolution. You might need a full revolution for hot bending a 2x4" piece of bar stock on some of the smaller machines. This is a four lead screw and the fly wheel on top sits on an octagonal screw for positioning the handle to the most comfortable and productive position. We offer an excellent DVD on how to use a Fly Press and how to make tooling. See page 126. See page 52 for photos of the 1/2” Ball and Character Punches.
