MARSDEN - A ONE STOP SOLUTION FOR ALL HOSPITAL & CLINIC WEIGHING NEEDS
Marsden Weighing Group are in a unique
position, a UK manufacturer with a
nationwide network of service engineers
providing a breakdown and repair service
along with scheduled maintenance visits
and the accreditation and ability to effect
on-site repairs and reverification of scales.
Very few UK companies can offer on-site
reverification and Marsden are the only
manufacturer with nationwide coverage,
we currently handle over 200 contracts
nationwide and are accredited to reverify
most makes of scale on-site, a true
one-stop solution to purchasing and
maintaining medical weighing equipment.
All scales are maintained in accordance
with Directive 2009/23/EC, Annex II.2
Members of the UK Weighing
Federation
The UKWF code of practice states:
The Code requires UKWF Members to
suitably train their personnel in all aspects
of the Code and the industry: the UKWF
provides a nationally recognised Certificate
of Competence for persons engaged in the
industry. This Code of Practice has been
produced by the UKWF as a means of
demonstrating to all interested parties that
UKWF Members operate to the highest
standards of integrity and professional
practice; their compliance with it is
compulsory with effect from
1st January 1998.
LACORS report and findings
In October 2009, LACORS (Local
Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory
Services) local government body
responsible for overseeing the services
run by councils to protect the public
made a series of recommendations
to hospital trusts. Among these were:
● Each hospital or trust should procure
all weighing equipment centrally
(rather than on a ward-by-ward basis),
ideally by the department responsible
for maintaining the equipment.
● Each trust should instigate a
programme of testing for their
equipment.
● Any inaccurate equipment should be
removed from service pending
replacement or repair.
Following the survey, the Department of
Health issued guidance endorsing these
recommendations. Based on the results
of the inspections, it is LACORS’ continued
view that all recommendations remain
necessary. This is necessary not only for
patient care, but also to prove due
diligence if a negligence claim were to
be brought, for example.
We offer two separate types of
maintenance cover:-
Single point calibration
contract
- is carried out using M1 certified test
weights (certificates available on request).
Weighing scales which are in need of
repair and not initially capable of being
tested, will only be tested following repairs
and may require reverification if trade
approved. The weighing scale is tested
at a single weight point and if correct,
no adjustments will be made.
If the scale is found to be incorrect, the
scale will be calibrated and/or reverified.
Should the scale still be incorrect and
require further repair, it will be brought to
the attention of the customer and noted on
the engineer’s worksheet.
Full calibration contract with
certification - is carried out using
M1 certified test weights (certificates
available on request). Weighing scales
which are in need of repair and not initially
capable of being tested, will only be
tested following repairs and may require
reverification if trade approved. The
weighing scale will be tested to capacity
over five calibration points or more and
if correct no adjustment will be made.
If the scale is found to be incorrect the
scale will be calibrated and/or reverified.
All tests will be recorded.
A calibration certificate will be provided
which shows scale make and model,
serial number and location, linearity and
hysteresis (where applicable), corner
testing and repeatability test. Should the
scale still be found to be incorrect and
require further repair it will be brought to
the attention of the customer and noted
on the engineer’s worksheet.
The calibration certificate provided offers
the hospital or clinic full traceability and
proves due diligence.

Marsden Warranty Policy
All products carry a two year warranty from
date of purchase for all faults due to
material or construction, faults under this
warranty are repaired free of charge, any
further claims will be excluded.
All moveable parts – batteries, cables,
mains units, rechargeable batteries etc. –
are excluded.
Trade purchases
We operate a strict return to base policy for
warranty claims to trade customers,
carriage is the responsibility of the
customer, claims covered by the warranty
will be effected free of charge and we will
pay the return transport costs.
End user purchases
Warranty claims will be honoured on a
return to base policy, return transport costs
are to be paid by the customer.
Important note
Warranty claims will be invalidated if the
equipment is tampered with by
unauthorized personnel.
Calibration Information
● It is recommended that all medical scales
are checked for calibration annually as a
minimum by a suitably qualified
organisation.
● Marsden Weighing Group offer service
and calibration contracts nationwide.
Cleaning
● Scale surfaces may be cleaned /
disinfected using standard hospital
products used for such purposes.
● A solution of 1% sodium hypochlorite
is suitable.
