nature & seasons
A very warm welcome to our
new look Clockwise magazine.
This is an annual publication
where we aim to show some
of the pictorial highlights of the
school year. The start of the
year was a difficult time for staff
and pupils following the news
that Sara Denham-Smith had lost
her brief battle with illness. It was a
great source of comfort to those who
knew her and particularly her close
family and friends when we
came together and
held a celebration
of Sara’s life and
time teaching at
Clock House. The
day included a
balloon release,
fundraising and
me being dowsed
in a bucket of
custard (there’s
a photograph
below to prove it).
Alongside
the photos
is a selection
of pieces written by the pupils. I am really
proud of the standard of work produced
and as the photos show, the pupils still have
plenty of time for so many extra-curricular
activities, sport, concerts, fund-raising events
and school
trips. I would
like to take this
opportunity to
thank the Junior
School staff who
make all this
possible for the
children.
The variety of
activities and the
enthusiasm that
the pupils have
put into them is
a real highlight
for me: from gardening to gymnastics, skiing
to samba band, biathlon to broad minds,
rounders to rock band, dance to DT – I could
go on!
Life at Clock House is about trying new things,
progressing at chosen hobbies, celebrating
talents and enjoying what you are doing
whether you are a beginner or more advanced;
as I reflect on the year I am pleased that this
has been achieved on so many occasions and
in so many ways.
garden
The roots of the twisted tree are like fingers
coming to grab you.
The dilapidated bony roots are crawling over
the mucky-damp corners.
The stones dwell in the emerald green grass
fading more and more as you get to the top
of the garden. The stone wall is sliced at both
sides and opened up to a windy path that leads
down the depths of the garden, where there is
a worn-down iron gate.
The leaves, like fingers are threading out over
the stream.
A daffodil is my favourite flower.
Soft, bright and beautiful yellow in
a lush green garden
that looks cheerful on a bright day
with a clear blue sky.
Its soft petals dancing
to the tunes of a gentle breeze
emitting a pleasant fragrance.
It is an amazing gift of nature.
a rainy day
A rainy day could bring lots of fun. You could
splash in the murky puddles and ruin your
reflection. You could hear the raindrops
bulleting into the ground. Also you could see
the grey and dark clouds covering the yellowy
orange, bright sun. You could feel your feet
tingling to be tempted to do some more. If you
were inside and not tempted to enjoy the dull
and damp rain, you could see the crystal clear
raindrops bouncing off the window. And that is
what you could do on a rainy day.
the garden shed
I’ve always thought that our garden shed was different to everyone
else’s, and what happened today just proved it.
My name was Jack Dover and my best friend, a skinny black haired boy, was called
Sammy Baker. I have dark black hair and am quite small for my age even though my big
brother, Billy, was a giant like the empire state building compared to an averagely sized
bungalow! He was humungous.
One day, Sammy and I were bouncing on my dilapidated, old, rusty, out of date trampoline
when we heard a small rustle, so small I barely heard it, coming from the garden shed.
Now, the garden shed wasn’t a nice big, green, tidy one. No, it was a mess. The paint had
turned to mush years ago, it smelt like a dozen rats had died in there (they probably had)
and it was filled from head to toe with spades and buckets and mowers and a whole lot of
dust so it wasn’t a nice place to be.
We just ignored it as I was 99.9% sure it would just be a hungry rat scavenging for food
but that night, I was just closing my bedroom window when I saw green lights shooting
out of the shed window mesmerizingly. I couldn’t help but watch for a few minutes when
suddenly the shed door opened!
Through the window I saw a little green man walk through the door and at first I thought
it was a frog but then I saw its huge alienated eyes, which were like torches that shone
darkness or bottomless pits. It held its head majestically, like a king talking to his audience.
I suddenly jumped out of the trance and realised, with a shock, what was happening. I
raced for my mobile and grabbed it, it nearly slipping out of my hands. It was new and
shiny so I gripped it, turned it on and rang Sammy. I know I should’ve called to my dozy
parents but I doubted they would listen and I just wasn’t thinking.
The phone rang for what seemed like forever but, after what felt like hours, a very tired
sounding familiar voice picked up the phone and asked gruffly what I wanted. I jumped for
joy when I heard him and told him everything. He said he would come over now and asked
me to re-explain to him when he got there. He left his phone on accidently
and I heard him sneak past his parents, who were watching TV, and
close the front door. The line cut off.
It was late and very dark when he arrived so Mum and Dad
were fast asleep. At least that was good. He came inside and I
explained to him again what happened.
“You know the rustling we heard whilst we were on the
trampoline,” I whispered.
“Yess...” he answered uncertainly.
“Well tonight, whilst I was closing my window, this alien came
out the shed door. The shed was glowing green and then it
came out. It’s small with H-U-G-E eyes, like footballs, with a
flourescent green body,”
“Are you sure it wasn’t just a frog” he said. It was clear
that he was getting creeped out.
“Do you want to have a look,” I whispered. He didn’t
reply. We just looked out the window to see the
alien gone. He looked annoyed that it wasn’t there,
thinking that I’d tricked him.
Just then we heard the door slowly creak open...
spring
Spring is a time of lambs and chicks,
Spring is a time of little birds and daffodils,
It is a time of chocolate and fun!
It should be a time of happiness,
A time of love,
It should be a time of Easter and flowers.
Spring should not be a time of sadness and
dullness,
Spring should not be a time of rain or bad
weather.
But most of all spring to me is marvellous fun!
luscious
spring
The sound of singing birds
The golden King Alfred daffodils
The slushy green grass on the spring floor,
And the brown autumn leaves on the floor.
The spiky holly on the trees
The bumpy bark on the outside of the tree
The fungus fingers forming on the tree,
And centuries of growth going away.
The scent of different coloured pansies
The white lambs eating the green grass
The nibbles of hunger in the scaly leaves,
And stretching the duvet of winter sleep.
The eruption of gold treasure
The tiger striped bees floating in the spring air
Packed with pollen from the flowers,
AND THE SPRING HUNT ENDED WHAT WILL
HAPPEN IN WINTER
hunting
for spring!
The birds are chirping, singing sweetly,
All the bright colours- literally blinding me,
Daffodils budding, luscious green grass,
Indulgent ivy climbing up the orange brick wall.
Black and yellow bees flying around,
Hunting for nectar.
Beautiful birdhouses with sensational seeds,
Twigs and brown sticks scattered all over the
natural carpet.
The smell of spring is just fresh air with a hint
of rose,
Dark brown trees with moss and fungus,
Forming on the fingers of the branch.
Huge leaves with creepy crawlies swarming all
over them!
The long elegant fingers of trees stretching out
onto the spring sky,
Twisted roots engulfed in the muddy, brown
ground.
Brown rusty leaves, abandoned pieces of
wood,
One massive tree with huge hands, his fingers
creeping up on you at night!
Bright colours: purple, fuchsia, all of them in
one velvety, soft pansy.
Weird shaped leaves with a glaze of ice.
But there are also dark sides to spring.....
Bat black colours on the pansies: ebony, dark
brown.
An eruption of smell
So marvellously mellifluous!
I think we have found him!
Trees are swaying
Sheep are laying.
All the lovely flowers
With all their magical powers;
Rabbits are bounding,
The birds are tweeting
Are they at a meeting
The birds have flown into the Spring sky
I have always wondered how they go so
autumn story
In 12th October, 50 BC, Polobly the warrior
was hunting enormous boars in a cool,
autumn morning. His friend, Totalvonix, was
rather fat and strong in case they had to fight
with the Romans. Their druid, Geremysinstix,
was gathering mistletoe but he didn’t notice
that some Romans were watching him.
Suddenly, Totalvonix threw a menhir at
the Romans but instead, it landed on
Geremysinstix. Polobly was furious.
“LOOK WHAT YOU’VE JUST DONE!!!”
shouted Polobly. Then, Geremysinstix woke.
He had gone mad! He couldn’t feel that the
autumn leaves were falling on his head.
“He’s crazy!” gasped Polobly. “The only thing
to do is to find another druid to cure him.” So
they went to the village Southsorgas to find
the druid. They went into a puddle of leaves
which was 20cm thick. At last, after a long
puddle of leaves, they reached the village.
“Can you come to our village to cure our
druid” Polobly asked the other druid, Caligula
Minus.
“Of course,” replied Caligula Minus. “But we
have to walk through a patch of crimson red
leaves so we can use a chariot.”
They went on a cart pulled by a piebald horse
to Polobly’s village. When they got there,
Caligula Minus said,
“Mmmm... This druid needs some potion
made of autumn oak leaves.” Half an hour
later, Caligula Minus made the potion.
Geremysinstix drank it. Suddenly, the druid felt
better! He was cured! In celebration, they had
a delicious banquet.
story
Once upon a time there was a girl called
Lucy, and she was going for a walk with her
mum and sister. So they set off and all of the
leaves slowly fell on to the ground. Lucy was
walking mum and sister in the park. Lucy said
“Let’s have a race” to her sister, Elizabeth.
They started running so fast it was in a blur.
SUDDENLY Lucy fell over really badly, and
then Lucy’s mum quickly got her mobile phone
out and immediately called the ambulance and
carried her home, Elizabeth was very upset.
Then when they got home it started to bleed
and it looked like a shining tomato. Then the
ambulance came and the man came in and
looked at Lucy’s leg. The doctor said “This is a
very series condition, I will have to take her to
the hospital, just for about two hours because
I have got a special cream. You can come too
if you want.”
“Sure.”
When they got there Lucy’s leg
stopped bleeding. Lucy’s sister told
her you will be alright; they loved
each other a lot. And the doctor
gave them cream to make Lucy’s leg
better.
Then Lucy, her mum and sister walked
home very slowly home, because
of Lucy’s poor leg. Lucy’s sister was
quite depressed because she had to see
the pain of Lucy’s leg she was kicking the
shining lemon leaves into the air. Then Lucy
lingered by Elizabeth and said, “What’s up”
“It’s just I couldn’t see you upset.... and
I am fine now there is nothing to be sad
about.” So they had a very comfortable hug.
Everyone was happy so they threw leaves
outside into the beautiful air.
It has the look of a kind machine,
But has the power of a menacing destroyer.
the ant and
the ladybird
There was once an ant that was a bit ugly
and was working very hard collecting twigs,
food and leaves for his family. There was also
a horrible mean ladybird just dancing around
having fun and not caring what will happen
next. He was showing off about his wings and
his polished black spots.
One day the ladybird was singing in the woods
admiring his reflection in the river and the ant
very tired on top of that ugliness.
“I think you look very ugly, but look at me lovely
like a rose!” the ladybird boasted.
The ant just walked off not listening. Then when
winter came the ant was all warm in his house
and piling food on her family`s plates, they
looked out of the window at the ladybird and
he was not singing because he was cold and
he didn`t collect food! The ant just smirked and
walked off.
Simba’s fur is a pearly white colour. Simba is so
a couch potato, after a long run with my mum
is his territory. His claws on his paws regularly
come out when angry. Freckles are peppered
on to his muzzle. Simba never barks except
when you try to take his toy.
We are getting a pointer puppy that we will be
calling Phlye (pronounced Fly) that will be the
complete opposite to Simba because he/she
will bark whenever there is a knock on the door.
tim the tiger
One sunny morning Tim the Tiger was waking
up from his nap. Then he said to himself,
“Is it morning already”
He had black stripes as dark as space on his
tummy, face and tail. Some of it was white. He
wasn’t very big. His eyes were beady and small
so were his ears.
Then he took another nap for a while until it was
2.30pm. He woke up and saw a boat coming
towards him. It was very small. When the boat
got to the island Tim decided to hide in the
house. Then a boy said
“Hello is anyone home”
But there was no answer. Then the boy looked
inside the house and saw Tim hiding.
“Hello, don’t be afraid,I won’t hurt you,”
Then Tim looked and the boy was standing
there. It was almost night time and the boy sat
in the house and went to sleep.
The next morning Tim and the boy woke up
and got up out of the house.
“Have you got a ball”asked Tim.
“Yes I have,” replied the boy.
“Can we play catch”said Tim.
“Of course we can,” answered the boy.
So Tim and the boy played catch.
After a while Tim and the boy had been playing
catch for about an hour and they got very tired
and then the boy said
“Can I keep you”
“Of course you can,” said Tim.
Then Tim and the boy both went home together
and had fun.
the fox and
the mouse
Once there was an unfair fox that was always
mean and there was a clever, giving mouse.
One sunny morning the fox wanted a game that
the mouse had and he didn’t. The mouse who
was always giving lent the fox the game.
After a while the mouse got suspicious and
asked he could have his game back. The fox
refused and wouldn’t tell why. The mouse was
really hurt but as he was clever he thought of a
plan. He immediately put his plan into action.
He asked the fox to a challenge on a different
game. The fox took the challenge full of spirit.
The mouse did it so that he could look around
the fox’s den. The day came; as the mouse was
crafty and he was small he could hide very well.
When they were playing the game
the mouse said he needed the
toilet, and went. The mouse
looked everywhere
in the fox’s burrow
and finally found
the game but it was
broken. The mouse
said to himself, “no
kindness from the
mean,” And sighed.
the deer and the cats
Once there were two cats who lived in a pigsty. The cats were very poor and could not
afford food so Mr. Cat would go into the forest every day to catch an animal for his supper.
One day Mr. Cat went into the forest set his trap and waited then all of a sudden whizz
bang the trap had fallen! Mr. Cat pounced out from behind the rock to only find a strong
young deer, “please I’m not really a deer I am an enchanted prince”, “well if you can talk
you can go free” and he untied the deer and she sprinted off.
When Mr. Cat went home he went home to a distraught Mrs. Cat she was in tears on the
floor she was so hungry “do you have any food” she begged “I am so sorry dear I did
catch an enchanted prince but I let him go”. The two cats went to bed hungry and upset
but little did they know the enchanted prince was watching.
The deer soon realised that the cats had a good heart and decided to help he quickly ran
to all his friends and asked to borrow some food and he ran to the butcher and the baker
and quickly ran back to the cat’s pigsty. Quickly placed the food on the table he whispered
“enjoy” and left.
When the cats woke they couldn’t believe their eyes for the first time in years the table was
covered in food not just a little lots of it from bread to beef to fresh vegetables the cat ate
all the food in no time. It had been a long time since they had eaten anything as nice as
that but all the while Mr. Cat had a warm feeling inside that he knew who had brought the
food out of pure kindness.
So that goes to prove that if you are kind somebody or something will be kind back
my special
place
Walking my dog Bonnie through a quiet
field I like to call the Vineyard, I love
the vineyard it’s so quiet and peaceful
somewhere I can escape a place of my
own .The fresh smells of damp grass
fills my nose with its extremely strong
scent, laying down on the overgrown
grass sliding through my fingers and
moulding around me, looking up at the
blue sky that’s filled with puffy plump
clouds, trying to discover what their
unusual shape will turn out to be. Cloud
watching fills my soul with happiness
and it makes me relax and admire the
beautiful scenery around me. This place
is a wonderful place it is a place of my
own. I love chasing Bonnie up and down
the steep hill avoiding any sharp pieces
of bracken. Pinning her down on the
slippery grass then grabbing her and
sliding down after what seems like a ten
mile hike up the hill. After resting for a
while walking her down the deep ditch
and back up the other side only to find
an even bigger hill and attempting to
climb it . When I finally get to the top
I sit there look down at Shibden Valley
feeling like I’m on top of the world .After
a while I trek down the hill run ahead of
Bonnie and hide in the bracken I know
this sounds crazy but she actually sniffs
me out and finds me, you see Bonnie’s a
beagle and I sometimes hide treats and
hide them a mile away from her and she
finds them. This is why the Vineyard is
my favourite place.
my special
place
My special place is a hotel overlooking a
beach from a hill and a path leading from
the hotel onto the beach went through some
beautiful trees, plants and wild grasshoppers
that were roughly 10cm long and even wild
cats on the loose. When you get down to
the beach you are looking at the big, blue,
sparkling sea and even at the side of the jetty
there are massive squid! Bigger than my arm
and one once wrapped around my hand,
squirted ink and swam away, it felt really sticky
and slimy and at the top of its mouth it actually
felt sharp and spiky, but it hurt after a while
when I got back to the Urchins Club House.
The Urchins Club House is a place for 7s and
under to go to for the day rather than with
your parents . The last night we were there we
walked to a small restaurant at the end of the
beach where we had some wonderful seafood
but then we had to go home.
my favourite
meal
As the piercing screech bellows I sprint for the
door, and snatch the box like a greedy goblin.
I don’t care for the cutlery as I scoff down the
amazing meal.
The oozing cheese explodes in my mouth, the
immense blast creates a fantastic fire, of which
the tangy tomato sauce puts out the flame.
Pepperoni comes and covers the burnt ash of
dough and keeps out the heat. I want more and
more and that is what I will get, can’t let go of
the unworded power as the stream of tomato
and river of mozzarella, with lily pads of hot,
steamy pepperoni dotted on top, flows down my
throat. The crispy dough crunches like a ton of
bricks being stampeded by a herd of elephants.
I cry out for more but no more comes. I leap
off my throne of a chair(the sofa) and search
around like a hungry bear desperate for some
honey and as I stomp to the kitchen and
demand for more… mum pulls a grin and
sniggers, “no… more… pizza!”
Lurking under the desk is an old, tatty,
dilapidated school bag. A lolloping, lazy laptop
lies on the wooden wrecked bed. Under the
bed lives the distraught monster of tidiness.
The crunchy out of date crisps are tumbling
down like snow. A pair of sneakers lazes
around on the green, bright chair like a sleeping
gargantuas drawer opens and sticks out its
tongue to catch the evil teddy bear sitting on
the chair.
The zebra skin chair twirls round like a majestic,
DIRTY ballerina. The money-filled jar looks like
an erupted volcano. A pure white cushion sits
against the bed board like a lazy guinea pig!
An old Earlint Rocks poster lies on the light
story
Long time ago there was a girl call Kristy,
who had beautiful, sparkling ebony eyes, her
lips were crimson red, her hair was ebony
and she had silky long hair that cascaded on
her shoulders. Kristy was an ordinary girl but
she was a pretty girl indeed. She lived in a
faraway place compared to her school. Her
mum and dad were very kind to her, so she
had a happy life.
One day Kristy was working and the teacher
went to the toilet, Kristy went over to the
wardrobe to look at some of the vocabulary near
the picture of books, but she could not find a
suitable word for her work. She went to look in a
dictionary. Then she heard a rustling sound…
She turned round and saw nothing, so she
went closer to the picture of books; she saw
a shiny red book in the middle. She turned
round to see if anyone was looking no one
was looking. Kristy reached out to touch the
book and something tingled on her fingers.
Next she saw herself completely invisible.
She couldn’t even see herself. Kristy started to
feel anxious but she told herself not to worry.
Kristy picked up the book. She was surprised
because it was a picture of books and she
picked the book out also she turned invisible! I
must be dreaming Kristy thought.
She opened the book carefully. She realised
the book was a magical book that told people
magical spells. Kristy read the first sentence
“Do you want to go to a beautiful place, a
glorious place that you had ever been You
would enjoy and have fun; it has precious
things that you have never seen.” Chanted
Kristy. She felt a whirlwind and it picked her up.
other cuddly toys sat on the shelf. The
books are tidy in a wooden box and all
the clips and bobbles are lined up in a
My nonsense poem
Don’t open the cupboard!
Who knows what could be in there
Perhaps a kitten or a rabbit,
Or maybe a grizzly bear!
Don’t open the cupboard!
Why on earth is it so scary
Is there a puppy inside A toy
Or maybe a little fairy
Don’t open the cupboard
Why on earth can’t we look
Are there vegetables inside A present
Or even worse... A BOOK!
Absolutely nothing there.
the messy
room
Crisps lay stale, uneaten and strewn about
all over the bedroom. Broken shoes hid
underneath a smelly cushion. Carelessly the
bed lay in a colossal heap of mess.
The coat lay above a heap of mess. T-shirts
were littered around the emerald green carpet.
Lazily the desk had been kept like a pile of
rubbish. There was a laptop that had been left
on, (always losing charge).
The door had been left at a crooked angle,
which had just been worn out. Posters were
stuck on the wall which had left many marks. A
teddy bear lay with a sad face frowning…
An old dusty record player lay hidden high
above on a microscopic, miniature shelf. Paper
had been scattered and scrunched up around
the room. Stop signs were covering the door
like a plague of locusts.
I slowly grasped the handle. I could feel the cold sweat of fear on the palm of my hand. I pushed the
door a tiny bit more and peeped inside.
In the room I saw a spirit. It was a horrifying sight, but then I thought that my imagination was
playing tricks on me. When I looked again the ghostly ghoul was gone!
Suddenly I heard another thud. It came from upstairs. I slowly walked up the creaking stairs.
Then I saw the ghoul again. I stopped myself from shouting. I was terrified I wasn’t going to
let him slip out of my hands again
I had to follow the ghost into the attic. The light flicked on and off. When the light flicked on
the ghostly ghoul appeared to move around the room. I could not keep track of him. Suddenly
I felt a cool breeze on my cheek. The light flicked on and the ghoul was standing right beside
me. I screamed but I could hear no sound.
the haunted
After a few minutes I decided that I had to continue. My curiosity
was too much for me to bear. I had come this far. I had to explore
the rest of the house, although I wasn’t sure what the house had
in store for me. What if it really was haunted “What if I never
made it out alive” I wondered. I opened the door. It creaked,
I peeped in, palms sweating with fear, my mouth dried up and
sore. I gasped. There in the murky shadows was a glow of white,
and then it was gone. I shook my head, I wondered if it was my
imagination, it wasn’t, there it was again.
I got really scared then. I screamed. I ran and ran out of the door
screaming, and then I stopped. There at the top of the staircase
was a ghostly moan. A cold icy shiver went down my spine.
There was a glint of white. There was banging up above me, I
closed my eyes…
never
Never go down to the woods at night
You’ll just find yourself in shock or fright,
Strange it will seem as you are surrounded by
When you’re knocked to the ground you’ll
twist and twist,
Soon you will be pinned to the floor
By the monster . . . The Minotaur!
As the mist blocks out the moon
You know that you will be dead soon,
The Minotaur is a dirty piece of work
A recipe for a witch’s brew,
It looks like gunge but tastes like stew.
Throw in the pot an old rat’s tail,
These ingredients cannot fail.
Next put in dead dog’s eye,
Then maybe a mouldy rat pie.
For flavour add a lock of hair,
This won’t make it a big nightmare.
Then you add an old cat’s ear,
Could include a drop of beer.
Add to the brew a flying bat,
Why not put in a witch’s hat.
Sprinkle in some dried up blood,
Don’t let it make a flood.
A spider would make it taste real nice,
Maybe some tails from three blind mice.
Stir this ‘til it’s mixed in well.
Stand very clear ‘cause this will smell!
Don’t go down to the forest at night
Or you will find a scare or fright
A bear or wolf
With eyes gleaming and teeth baring,
You‘ll never come out the forest then.
Never go to the forest at night
Under the gleaming moon
For wolves will howl and birds will fly
As vultures dive.
My skin’s white and my friend’s is brown,
Sometimes we go out to town,
Where there is someone wearing a crown.
Strangers may look and see,
Two different colours him and me,
He is Muslim and I am not,
But I don’t think that matters a lot!
When we play at each other’s homes,
Or call each other on our phones,
We don’t notice each other’s race,
It doesn’t matter in any case!
We like different things to eat,
He likes spicy but I like sweet,
His curries are often very hot,
I like spicy but not a lot!
So really we are all the same,
But racism is such a shame!
deforestation
of rainforest
Rainforest once covered at least 14% of
the world but now only covers a mere 6%
of the world. It is said that the rainforest
might even be gone in less than 40 years.
135 animals, plants or insects die each day
from deforestation that is 50,000 plants and
animals get destroyed each year. Chainsaws,
bulldozers and fires are used to clear trees
for land but can be used to cut down trees
for money.
This incident is manmade but can be
accidental if a piece of glass catches rays
of sun to make a fire but if we weren’t here
it wouldn’t have happened. Also some trees
die knocking others over destroying trees
around it!!!
I hope you have enjoyed reading these facts
about the deforestation of rainforests.
Year 6 have had a few days of fun activities and time learning fun techniques. They even learnt
some Tai boxing!!! The activities started on Thursday 3rd March 2011 with Muay Tai and ended
with Music Production on Friday 4th March 2011. Muay Tai, we learnt, was not just about
fighting but about respect as well. The eight combat points, which we also learnt about, were
both elbows, fists, your
knees and your feet.
Next we did African
Drumming and we learnt
to play the basics. The
drums we used were
called Djembays. We
learnt 3 techniques
played in different
parts of the drum and
by hitting the drum
by shaping your
hand differently. The
three techniques are
called the Base, the
which combined
together sounds
better than just
My name is Jaya and I am 8 years old. I am writing to tell you about climate
change. Your government have made a lot of promises about climate change,
now will you keep them I may just be a child but in 20 years time I won’t be.
Why do you focus on cuts rather than this This is way more important. It is
your responsibility to make sure this happens.
You promised that by 2050 that we would cut carbon dioxide emissions by
60%. By 2020 you’d cut carbon dioxide emissions from 26-30% compared to
1990. So we may need to focus on this and get a move on.
If the world used electricity and resources like in the UK, then we would need
3.1 worlds. As you should know we only have one world. Climate change
has affected the Arctic Circle. In the winter the sea freezes. In the spring part
of it melts. More and more of the ice caps have been melting due to climate
change.
Droughts and floods have been worse. A polar bear had to swim for 3 days
because there weren’t any ice caps. Polar bears will find it harder to find food
therefore they won’t have energy to swim far. Not only that but the countries
that are being most affected aren’t doing anything to make it worse.
Yours sincerely,
I am writing to you about pollution and climate change. Climate change causes
problems such as droughts and floods, which destroy animals’ and plants’
habitats. All the poor people have to deal with climate change too, for example
in some parts of Africa. You have to change this because when we are old in 20
years we will have all of these problems to deal with .The government said that
we will reduce green house gasses emissions by 26-30 % for 2020. If you have
not kept these promises, then everyone is right to be disgusted. You must not
be infantile to ignore climate change.
I am therefore writing to say the government needs to stop having tea parties.
They need get on with the jobs that have to be done. Make hydrogen cars,
if that is too much then we must at least make cars with one half fuel and
one half electric power. Cut electricity down! You ask why We don’t know
everything, we are only children but if you sort this out, we will know what
to do in the future.
Yours sincerely,
my day on britannia
On 13th April 2011 I went on Holiday to Edinburgh. My best day on holiday was on the 16th April
2011. On that very day I woke up ‘Bleep! Bleep!’ But I didn’t get up, my Mum had to pull me out of
bed. Blimey I was only sleeping. Anyway I got dressed had breakfast then I went on a bus to see
Britannia! I was confused, anyway my Mum and Dad dragged me on the bus. My brother Marcus
was so excited he nearly exploded like a balloon, my sister Libby was thinking what she might see,
Jeremy and I sat in the corner thinking if it could be boring or an exciting day.
As I went on Britannia I saw the lovely blue sky then I went on the magnificent boat. Inside we
weren’t allowed to touch anything but the majority of things on the boat were beautiful, outside
the sun was hot. It was marvellous. I even had lunch in it. When I went off the boat I thought to
myself that day was AMAZING!!! That night I fell asleep and dreamed about what a sailor from
Britannia might get up to.
Then at last we saw a light,
my beachtastic day
On a Sunday morning I hopped out of my peachy-pink bed and slipped my feet in my fluffy slippers. I
jumped down the stairs 3 at a time and slithered into the kitchen. I made my breakfast; it was crunchy
buttery toast and opened the ice-cold fridge to get some jam. I spread it on the toast and scoffed it up.
I was going to the beach! So I brushed my teeth until they turned pearly white. Excitedly, I went upstairs
and got changed into my clothes- a white skirt and a peach top. Quickly we ran into the car and drove
off. Just then a BMW car butted in and we were nearly hit! Fortunately we missed. My dad beeped the
fearful horn.
Finally we were there I saw the sandy golden sand and the blue massive waves that flew over
sandcastles. I ran into the waves and played. My friend splashed me and started a water fight.
Suddenly my dad looked at his watch and we had to go home.
It was a beachtastic day!!
In the afternoon we went back to the beach
the letter
that changed
my life
I was upstairs in my bedroom when my mum
shouted “I’m going to the shops I will be back
in a little while.” That was my chance to play
football in the lounge! So I quickly picked up
my football and headed for the lounge! I put
down the football and did a few tricks. Then
suddenly I heard a loud bang on the door. It
was the postman.
When I opened the door he shoved the letters
in my hand very firmly. I looked through them
most of them were bills for my mum and dad.
Then I saw it! The letter from Manchester
United! A few weeks ago I did a trial there.
Manchester United was my hopes and
dreams! I opened the letter. It said “Joseph
Qureshi you have been selected to join the
Manchester United academy!”
I was ecstatic; my face went from worried to
very happy. This could change my life forever!
When my mum got home I quickly showed
her. She was overjoyed too. I don’t think for
me though, I think she thought that I could
buy her anything she wanted when I was
older. I was hyper for about a week after I
heard that news.
There was only one big problem. Training was
on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and
the matches were on a Sunday. We lived in
Bradford and I had to travel to Manchester 4
times a week. My mum said that if we live this
far away you can’t play for Manchester United.
Then the gloom fell on me.
I wasn’t going to let a chance like this slide. I
shouted at my mum saying mean things. Then
I calmed myself down and said can we move
to Manchester so I can take up my dream.
She said ok but only if we find a place cheap
enough.
We looked on the internet to find a flat
because my mum and dad were divorced. We
found the perfect flat. My Mum and I could
live there perfectly.
A few months later we were settled in the
flat I had already played a match for the red
devils. I scored and we won 3-0 everything
was perfect.
Now that I am 20 and on £20,000 pounds
a week and now I can buy anything for my
mum. My life has changed forever!
Never go in Kenny’s shack,
Air and space there is a lack,
You’ll find dead spiders and living rats,
Poo from dogs and skanky cats,
There’s nothing in there he ever uses,
Nothing in there that’s fun or amuses,
Everything in there’s ready for the bin,
Nothing to remind him of friends or kin,
Never tied his laces,
Flop would go his shoe
Oh whatever would he do!
His mum and dad would always shout,
But his eyelet would just seem to float about.
He would sometimes trip, but never fall
As he stumbled down the classroom hall.
Some kids would point and sneer,
But the teachers just said, ‘Oh dear!’
He was walking home one day,
But he didn’t see the bale of hay...
BANG BASH, off went his sketcher,
As he was carried away on a hospital stretcher.
Now every lace always tied,
Because one day he almost died.
Katie Robertshaw J6S
A few weeks ago I went to Chino Tai in Bradford and I have to say it was probably the most
amazing restaurant I’ve ever been to! The impression you get when you walk through the front
doors is phenomenal. Then you walk up the stairs and meet the man at the reception who is
immensely nice. Then he takes you to your table (reserved or not) and hands you the menu.
I personally recommend the chicken and sweetcorn soup for a starter because it is quick to
come and very delicious. (I just want to remind you that the all food they cook is cooked by
Chinese people so they know what they are actually doing). Then just when you finished your
starter they tell you that your next course is ready then ask you when you would like it so you
don’t worry that they haven’t even started to cook your next course.
For your main course I would recommend the sweet and sour chicken with various types of
noodles (beef, pork etc) and I would also recommend the duck pancakes with the plum sauce,
spring onions and cucumber. When you have finished your course you have many desserts to
choose from I could recommend so many. At the end they give you the bill and mints. A very
small price to pay for an excellent dinner.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
willie’s adventure
George led the way through a narrow road; Willie was at the back kicking stones along the road.
They reached a small stream; luckily everyone had their wellington boots so they all waddled
through the stream.
But George’s boot got stuck on a rock, and he fell into the water.
Everyone rushed to George,
“He can’t swim!” shouted Carrie trying to grab onto George’s hand.
Everyone grabbed George and pulled him up and out of the water. George came up gasping and
coughing.
Willie helped George stand up, but George was still soaked.
Suddenly, the air raid siren went off.
“We have to go!” shouted Carrie and Ginnie in unison.
“What about George!” shouted Zach.
“Yeah we can’t just leave George here,” said Willie very calmly.
“Well we’re going!” said Carrie and then she and Ginnie ran off.
Zach and Willie tried yanking at George’s boot, but it wouldn’t come loose.
Eventually they ended up taking off George’s boot, and leaving it in the stream.
George, Willie, and Zach ran as fast as they could to get to the shelter.
George was moaning all the way about his lack of a shoe.
When they reached the house Tom emerged from the house.
“The air raid siren has gone off!” shouted Willie, heading for the shelter.
“No it was a false alarm!”said Tom.
The siren stopped and Willie let go of George.
“Thanks,” mumbled George and then he trudged away with one welly.
“Bye!” said Zach to Willie. And he walked off.
Willie was so tired he went straight to bed.
