Technology
Vinylester Spray
Tooling Gelcoat
This is a superior performance vinylester spray
tooling gelcoat for making moulds designed to have
a long service lifetime and retain high gloss levels
after multiple pulls.
Gloss Reading of Crystic ® Gelcoat 15PA laminate
versus market leading competitors
Benefits:
l Easy to spray and achieve good coverage
l Superior gloss retention in use after multiple
pulls from the mould
l No gassing of the gelcoat ensuring a very low
porosity surface
l Excellent resistance to fibre print-through
when used with Crystic VE679PA skincoat
and Crystic RTR4000PA or Crystic 474PA
tooling resins
l Use with a standard MEKP catalyst
Very easy to spray with, covers nicely
and no sagging. The degassing is perfect
and no pinholes were found even after
sanding the surface of the gel coat.
But where it really out performs the
competition is in achieving excellent
resistance to print-through when
vacuum bagging a 2 x 2 twill carbon
fabric of 200 g/m2 with epoxy resin.
GELCOATS
Crystic Gelcoat 14PA
Modified Vinylester Brush Tooling Gelcoat
A modified Vinylester brush tooling gelcoat, which has excellent
gloss retention and exceptional resilience. It has good chemical
resistance and offers a genuine solution to the problem of
"water marking".
Hi Spec Plastics have been in business since
1968 designing and manufacturing liferaft
containers, Marine, Aviation and leisure.
Over the years we have tried and tested a
number of different tooling Gelcoats but none
have exhibited the performance excellence
of Crystic 14PA. One of the moulds produced
using 14PA has had over 4,000 lifts over a
number of years with no evidence of dulling,
crazing or cracking of the gelcoat surface.
Crystic 14PA has exceeded all our expectations
for a tooling gelcoat and we strongly suggest
you try it.
Crystic Primecoat
High build, polyester coating material
Crystic Primecoat allows the rapid surfacing of patterns constructed
of wood, MDF, GRP etc. It can be applied wet-on-wet up to a
thickness of 1.5mm in one operation without sagging or drainage
from vertical surfaces. It is designed for spray application but it
can be applied by brush. Spray application will give a more uniform
coating requiring much less finishing. The material hardens rapidly
and when cured can be easily sanded to a very smooth finish which
can be polished to a surface glossy enough for many applications.
When higher gloss and/or hardness is required it can be surfaced
with Crystic Glosscoat.
Crystic Glosscoat
Polyester coating for use with Primecoat
Crystic Glosscoat is designed to be applied over prepared Crystic
Primecoat to give a glossier and more durable surface. The material
hardens rapidly and can be sanded to a smooth surface which
can be polished to a high gloss. It is designed for spray application.
It can be mixed with Crystic Primecoat to give intermediate surface gloss
and easier sanding and polishing.
SKINCOAT
Crystic VE 679PA
Skin Coat
An easy to use Vinyl ester /DCPD skincoat which significantly
reduces the occurrence of fibre print through.
TOOLING RESINS
Crystic RTR 4000PA
Rapid Tooling Resin
Crystic 474PA
Heat and Chemical Resistant Laminating Resin
RTR 4000A is a pre-accelerated low profile,
thixotropic resin specifically designed for rapid tool
making. It has improved shrinkage control giving
good handling and rapid cure. It is catalysed with
Butanox M50 or equivalent.
Is a thixotropic, pre-accelerated polyester resin with good heat and
chemical resistant properties. It is ideally suitable for the production of
heat resistant, dimensionally stable moulds.
