FOR MODELS: JGZ AND JGU SECTION 7 - APPENDICES SECTION 7 - APPENDICES Ariel Tools Ariel Furnished Tools Ariel provides the following tools with each compressor, unless opted out on the sales order. See Figure 7-1 on Page 7-2. • Furnished Tool Kit (G-10306), containing the following: • Tool Box (A-0798). Not illustrated). • Ratchet Wrench Extension Support for turning piston-rod-assembly (B-1240). • 3/4 in. x 1 in. UNC Valve Tool for Installing or Removing “CT” Valves (A-2289). • 5/8 in. x 3/4 in. UNF Valve Tool for Installing or Removing Valves (A-13636). • Piston-Rod-Assembly Installation/Removal Turning Tool for 3/4 in. Square Drive (B-3472). CAUTION: THE PISTON-ROD-ASSEMBLY TURNING TOOL IS NOT DESIGNED TO HANDLE THE TORQUE REQUIRED TO TIGHTEN THE PISTON NUT. TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY. TIGHTEN THE PISTON NUT WITH THE PROPER HYDRAULIC TOOL LISTED IN ARIEL SEPARATELY PUR- CHASED TOOLS ON PAGE 7- 4. • Crosshead Pin Alignment Tool (B-3496). • Handle for Crosshead Pin Alignment Tool/ Valve Cap Tools, quantity (2), (A-7677). • Bolting Required Tightening Torque Laminated Chart (ER-63). This information is also available on the Ariel web site: www.arielcorp.com. Not illustrated. • Plastic Gage for Checking Bolting Diameters and Thread Sizes (A-15236). Not illustrated. • Connecting Rod Cap Removal Tool (C-3580). See Figure 7-2 on Page 7-3. • Piston Rod Entering Sleeve-two piece (A-12742). See Figure 7-3 on Page 7-3. • Top Cover Spacer Bar Alignment-Tool, quantity (2), (A-11987). See Figure 7-4 on Page 7-3. • Crosshead Installation Spindle Tool (A-11722). Use hex cap screws listed in the provided standard commercial hardware below to bolt to crosshead guide diaphragm. Ariel provides the following tools with each compressor when applicable, as required: • 1/4 in. x 3/8 in. UNF Valve Tool for Installing or Removing Valves (A-0409), provided for small cylinders as required. See Figure 7-1 on Page 7-2. • Valve Removal Tool, for forged steel cylinders. See Figure 7-5 on Page 7-4. Used to remove the metallic wire gasket in high pressure applications. • Piston Ring Entering Sleeves for forged-steel tail-rod compressor cylinders with step to bore. See Figure 7-6 on Page 7-4. Ariel provides these tools. Please contact your Distributor if you do not have these tools. 7/09 PAGE 7 - 1
FOR MODELS: JGZ AND JGU SECTION 7 - APPENDICES These tools are specifically designed for use on Ariel units. Clean all tools before use. Be sure that the tool and the part being removed or installed are fully engaged during the process. If a tool is missing, worn or broken, please call your distributor for a replacement. Do not use worn or broken tools, or substitutes for Ariel furnished tools. Also included in the tool box are standard commercial hardware and tools as follows: • Forged Steel Eyebolts: 3/8 in. - 16, UNC, quantity (6); 1/2 in. - 13, UNC, quantity (2); 5/8 in. - 11, UNC, quantity (2). • Allen Wrenches: 5/32 in., quantity (5); 3/16 in., quantity (5); 3/8 in., quantity (1); 1/2 in., quantity (2); 3/4 in., quantity (1). • Hex Cap Screws, Grade 5, 1/4 in. - 20 UNC x 1” (x 25.4 mm), quantity (6). Used to bolt Crosshead Installation Tool (A-11722), to Crosshead Guide Diaphragm Bolt Circle.
