FOR MODELS: JGZ AND JGU SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE Radial Ring Pressure Side Ring Material: Usually PEEK FIGURE 5-40 TYPE “CU” SINGLE ACTING SEAL SET Type “CUU” Single Acting Seal Set This set is made up of four rings. It seals in one direction only. The first ring (pressure side) is radially cut. The second ring is a tangentially cut ring. The first two rings are doweled so the end gaps are staggered. The third and forth rings are back-up rings and are uncut (solid). The bores in the rings are larger than the rod diameter. The total end gap installed is 9/16 to 19/32 in. (14 to 15 mm) for PEEK and 9/32 to 5/16 in. (7 to 8 mm) for Teflon. The end gap should be maintained by replacing the rings. See Figure 5-41. FOR MODELS: JGZ AND JGU SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE Type “STU” Single Acting Seal Set This set is made up of three rings. It seals in one direction only. The first ring (pressure side) is uncut (solid), with radial groves on the pressure side. The second ring is Tangentially cut. The third ring is uncut (solid). See Figure 5-42. Uncut Ring FIGURE 5-42 TYPE “STU SINGLE ACTING SEAL SET Type “CR” Single Acting Seal Set This set is made up of three rings. It seals in one direction only. The first ring (pressure side) is radially cut. The total end gap installed is 17/32 to 9/16 in. (13 to 14 mm) for PEEK, Bronze & Cast Iron, and 9/32 to 5/16 in. (7 to 8 mm) for Teflon. The end gap should be maintained by replacing the ring. The second ring is tangentially cut. The first two rings are doweled so the end gaps are staggered. The third ring is called a back-up ring and is radially cut. The bore in the back-up ring is larger than the rod diameter which allows its radial joints to be tight together. See Figure 5-43. Radial Ring FIGURE 5-43 TYPE “CR” SINGLE ACTING SEAL SET Type "3RWS" Oil Wiper Set Tangent Ring Uncut Ring Tangent Ring Backup Ring Pressure Side Pressure Side Alignment Dowel This set uses three radial cut rings. They are doweled to provide a staggered arrangement. Their purpose is to keep crankcase oil out of the packing and cylinder. Assemble with the blank face towards the oil (crankcase) and the slotted side towards the pressure packing. PAGE 5 - 52 7/09
