FOR MODELS: JGZ AND JGU SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE
Chain Idler Sprockets Replacement - (Eccentric Adjustment
Caps)
1. Remove the frame auxiliary end top cover and gasket. Remove the cap screws
that hold the eccentric adjustment caps to the end cover. Rotate the eccentric
caps to loosen the chains for removal. Remove the chain master link when
applicable. After dropping the chain off an idler sprocket, the entire assembly
can be removed from the end cover.
2. Remove the lock nut, hex cap screw, and Stat-O-Seal washer. Discard all three
items since they must be replaced with new parts. Remove and discard the cap
o-ring.
3. Reassemble all parts using a new cap screw, Stat-O-Seal washer, sprocket, and
lock nut. Tighten the idler lock nut to the recommended torque given in Table 1-
11 on Page 1-18.
4. Apply new clean lubricating oil, same type as is used in the frame, and install a
new o-ring. Install the assembly and chain. Adjust the chain according to the
instructions given in “Chain Adjustment” on Page 5-31.
1. Drain the oil from the crankcase. Remove all piping from the pump. Remove
bolting and rotate eccentric adjusting cap on the chain idler to loosen the chain.
Remove the chain. Remove the bolting from the pump mounting flange and the
sprocket will come free through the hole in the end cover.
2. Measure the exact distance from the outer edge of the sprocket to the face of
the pump mounting flange in order to position the new sprocket. Note this measurement
for future reference.
3. With the oil pump on a bench, use an Allen Wrench to remove the sprocket set
screws; then, pull the sprocket from its shaft.
4. Remove the square key, 3/8 x 2 inches (9.38 x 50.8 mm) long, from the shaft
and file the shaft to smooth out any burrs raised by the cup point of the set
screw.
