Operate the pre-lube pump to lubricate the bearings. 2. Drain the oil from the crankcase. 3. Remove the coupling center member. Remove the coupling hub. In order to remove the coupling hub it may be necessary to heat it. If the coupling hub is not removed, the drive end cover cannot be removed separately, and will need to be lifted out with the crankshaft. CAUTION!: DO NOT TOUCH HOT SURFACES WITHOUT PROPER INSULATION TO PREVENT INJURY. 4. Remove the top covers, gaskets, top cover and main bearing spacer bars, and drive end cover. Tip: If the spacer-bar cap screws are difficult to loosen, use a 12 point hammer wrench. Remove the RTD’s/thermocouples from the main bearing caps and place them so they will not be damaged when the crankshaft is being removed. 5. Be careful not to damage the sharp corners on each end of the top of the crankcase. These corners form the junction between the end covers, top covers, and base; thus they must be kept sharp and unmarred to prevent oil leaks. 7/09 PAGE 5 - 19
