INTERNAL MEMORANDUM
DATE: 14 April 2011
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:
Dr. C. Mulligan, Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies
Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science
Dr. W.E. Lynch, Chair
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Graduate Curriculum – Course Changes
Please find Dossier #46 submitted by the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering.
Topic Areas: E11 – Aerospace / E55 – Aeronautics
A program change has been completed to rearrange these two topic areas, and to change the
name of E55 from Aeronautics to Aerospace.
These program changes have been approved at the Department Council meetings held 04
February 2011 and 04 March 2011.
I would be grateful if you could put this on the agenda of the next ENCS Graduate Studies
Committee meeting.
ENGR 6471 Integration of Avionics Systems (*)
ENGR 7461 Avionic Systems Design
ENGR 7961 Industrial “Stage” and Training
MECH 6091 Flight Control Systems
Rationale: Currently there are two topic areas (E11 and E55) with Aerospace related courses, with no apparent logic as to why certain courses are in which topic area. In the interests
of both MIE and ECE it would be more logical and make for simpler registration if the topic areas were rearranged as suggested with all Aerospace courses listed in E11 (thus MIE
students could take any courses in this topic area), and rename E55 as Avionics and include only those courses directly related to this area. This would allow programs in other
departments (ECE, CSE, etc.) who have an interest in Avionics to include just this topic area.
Resource Implications: None.
