Opening Speech
Honorable audience, dear colleagues
On behalf of the Moldovan Central Electoral Commission and as Chairman of the
Association of European Election Officials I would like to welcome you and also
thank you for honouring us with your presence today at the International Conference
held under the motto “New Technologies in Compilation and Use of Voter
Lists. Evolutions and Perspectives.”
At the very start, I would like to mention that due to adverse weather conditions
created by the volcano in Iceland and disruption of air flights, several of the Conference
invitees were forced to cancel their participation. That is also the reason
for cancelling the international exhibition scheduled for April 21 to 23 and other
events of 22 and 23 April 2010.
Moldovan leadership is present in this room (I’m happy to greet Mr. Mihai Ghimpu,
the Acting President of the Republic of Moldova and President of Parliament,
Mr. Vladimir Filat, prime minister), heads of diplomatic missions accredited in
Chisinau, colleagues from electoral authorities of other countries (Romania, Azerbaijan,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia), representatives of national and
international organizations with responsibilities in elections, MPs, ministers and
NGO experts. Also, members and officials of the Central Electoral Commission,
representatives of central and local government participate in this Conference.
