Cleveland members join hands<br />
to help others breathe easier<br />
CLEVELAND, OH -- <strong>The</strong> majority of us take breathing for granted. It is something--thankfully--we<br />
do not have to think about doing. Our brains automatically<br />
adjust our lung functions to match the level of our activity at any given time:<br />
when we exercise, our lungs work harder to provide us sufficient oxygen; when<br />
we sleep, our lungs slow their rhythm to allow for comfortable rest.<br />
Unfortunately, many children and adults have developmental disabilities which<br />
prevent their lungs from functioning normally. <strong>The</strong>y often need special equipment<br />
to do what most of us take for granted. Such equipment is expensive.<br />
But, thanks to the generosity<br />
of the members of Branch 14<br />
Cleveland, three young persons<br />
in their area who suffer from<br />
developmental disabilities will be able to breathe a bit<br />
easier.<br />

Dear Mr. Sarosi,<br />
Thank you for your recent donation to help support Hattie<br />
Larlham and the children and adults we serve. We are so<br />
fortunate to have such dedicated people at the <strong>William</strong> <strong>Penn</strong><br />
Association who have such a passion for our organization.<br />
Your thoughtful and generous actions advance our mission and<br />
sustain us as a place of comfort, joy and achievement.<br />
This generous donation of $1,480 is being used to buy one<br />
c-pap machine and two PD vests. By your generous donation<br />
these items will have a direct impact on the residents at our<br />
center. We greatly appreciate your generosity to Hattie Larlham<br />
and interest in our mission.<br />
We at Hattie Larlham strive every day to be innovative and<br />
adaptive in our role as a leading provider of services to individuals<br />
with developmental disabilities. We are committed to<br />
developing special programs that improve the quality of life and<br />
meet the ever increasing demands which our individuals face.<br />

For their 2010 Join Hands Day project, the members of<br />
Branch 14 decided to make a donation to the Hattie Larlham<br />
Foundation. Hattie Larlham is a nonprofit organization that<br />
provides care to 1,500 children and adults with mental retardation<br />
and developmental disabilities. Through residential,<br />
respite and private-duty home care, animal programs and<br />
vocational programs, Hattie Larlham’s services not only benefit<br />
the individuals it serves but also their families, loved ones<br />
and surrounding communties.<br />
On April 30, officers and members of Branch 14 visited<br />
Hattie Larlham’s facilities in Mantua, Ohio. While there,<br />
the branch presented to the foundation a check for $1,480.<br />
<strong>The</strong> money was used to purchase one c-pap (Continuous<br />
Positive Airway Pressure) machine ($420) and two PD vests<br />
($530 each).<br />
“Branch 14 selected the Hattie Larlham Foundation for<br />
this project due to the outstanding work and care given to<br />
children and adults who are afflicted with developmental<br />
disabilities,” Mr. Sarosi said. “Our members learned a<br />
great deal about this organizaion, and we were pleased<br />
to know that our gift will help three young persons with<br />
their breathing issues. All of us who were present were<br />
very moved and we left Hattie Larlham knowing that<br />
our gift will make a difference in three young individuals’<br />
lives.”<br />
