Technical Training Skills to Strenghten the Construction Sector in Cambodia
Quoted from The Commercial News
Translated by Mr. Pen Virak, Assistant to CFO
MOU signing ceremony on “Technical and
Professional Training Cooperation” between
Cambodia Contructors Association (CCA) and the
Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training was held
on 25 th October 2012 at the 28 th floor of Canadia
Tower. This signing ceremony was presided over
by H.E Mr. Pich Sophan, Acting Minister of Labor
and Vocational Training, and Mr. Pung Kheav Se,
Chairman of Canadia Bank Plc, and concurrently
the CCA Chairman as well. The main purpose
of this cooperation was aimed at supporting
and strengthening the construction sector of
the country, introducing local and international
construction standards to the technical workers,
and enhancing their professional capacities to help
build Cambodia towards sustainable development
and growth.
Mr. Pung Kheav Se highlighted that after its
establishment for more than one year and a
half, the Cambodia Constructors Association has
been trying to promote the construction sector
development in Cambodia, and also integrating it
into the ASEAN Constructors Federation (ACF) that
includes member countries such as Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Phillipines, Singapore, Thailand,
Vietnam, and most recently the Kingdom of
Cambodia.
The signing of MOU between the Cambodia
Constructors Association and the Ministry of
Labor and Vocational Training of Cambodia was
to provide training on the technical foundation
and skills including brick cutting, walling, concrete
mixing, wall concreting, wall decorating, and
water and electricity installation to Cambodian
technicians. These are the basic skills and technical
construction requirements to meet with both local
and international standards.
Thailand is now facing inadequate number of
construction workers due to high payment offered
by neighboring countries whereas, Cambodian
workers are leaving for Thailand to find some job,
said Mr. Pung Kheav Se. According to the research,
Thailand needs about 300,000 construction
workers in the year 2013. This could be a good
opportunity for Cambodian workers to obtain
job over there. Therefore, the country should pay
more attention in providing training on technical
skills to construction workers in order for them
to be well prepared for this kind of job inside and
outside the country.
After attending this training course, participants
will be able to improve their skills and experiences
related to construction, and answer the current
needs of the market. When having high skills
and abilities, they no longer have to look for jobs
outside the country, added Mr. Pung Kheav Se.
Simultaneously, H.E Mr. Pich Sophan admired
this technical training skills which is being organized
by the Cambodia Constructors Association. He also
expressed that this could be one of the effective
measures to prevent workers from finding jobs
outside the country. They could find jobs in the
country with higher payments. He added that the
ASEAN integration into the regional market by the
year 2015, would be a compelling challenge for
our workers if they did not have high knowledge
and good construction skills.
Business Etiquette Training
Written by Mr. Aing Huy, Investment Dep’t
Translated by Miss. Traing Muyly, Head of Correspondent Banking & SWIFT
Business etiquette is an integral part of personal
accomplishment, and proper business etiquette
can promote individual career development.
Proper business etiquette is not only to improve
the image of the individual, but also to enhance
the company’s overall image. Hence, business
etiquette is a vital part of the enterprise’s culture.
Last 20 th October 2012, under the instructions
of Mr. Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of Canadia Bank,
the Private Banking Manager has organized
and invited the instructor Ms. Cheng Xiao Wei,
Head, Educational Administration Section from
“Confucius Institute” to conduct a Business
Etiquette Guidance and Training for 24 Canadia
Bank personnel from different departments. The
aim was to improve the etiquette culture, mainly
related to various business situations such as
learning how to greet customers, enhancing
the enterprise’s image, personal image, and
professional image. The requirements of the codes
of conduct in the business communications were
appearance, grooming, deportment, language,
etc.
During the training course, the instructor
divided the participants into four groups. Each
team was asked to create their own group’s name,
and participated in all kind of class activities
such as asking and answering questions, and
demonstrating various business etiquettes. The
training’s ambience was lively and active, and
participants learned a lot of new knowledge and
enhanced teamwork. During the presentation, the
instructor has mentioned that “if customers like
you, they will also like your products. The process
of interaction and the initial contact with a person
or a thing are the first impression which people
usually evaluate the level (price) of things, and
to some extent they will determine the quality of
November 2012 No. 23
relationship between pros and cons”.
Therefore, learning appropriate business
etiquette in the process of interacting with
customers, and in giving customers a good
impression is very essential. The customers’
judgments are their standard. The ability to
accurately understand what you think can only be
judged by your behavior and your language. The
way you express the meaning of the customer’s
perception is the gap between the directions you
need to improve and make efforts, and business
etiquette is a way to develop your skills that
improve people’s lifestyles.
The training course’s contents are as follows:
- Business occasions personal appearance
shape
- Business occasions dress etiquette
- Business occasions reception etiquette
- Business occasions meeting etiquette
- Business form etiquette
- Business phone etiquette
- Communication etiquette
In the business communication, you should
learn empathy, be friendly, and more concerned
about the customer’s feelings from our hearts, and
show customers our honesty, sincerity, respect,
self-esteem as good impression to achieve a winwin
situation.
All trainees will obtain substantial benefits
from this business etiquette training. First, it
helps improve themselves. Second, it helps
embellish their way of living. Third, it contributes
social interaction and improves interpersonal
relationships. From an enterprise’s point of view,
it enhances the enterprise’s image, improves
customers’ satisfaction and reputation, and
ultimately strengthens the enterprise’s economic
and social benefits.
Purchasing Department Organizes Trip to Sihanouk Ville
Written By Poeng Chhi Song, Purchasing Department
Translated By Mr. Koy Sereipagnaroth, Training and Development Department
On Saturday, 22 nd September 2012, after
completing our tasks in the morning, the
Purchasing Team members with a total number of
23 persons went to Sihanouk Ville and stayed at
the Independence Hotel, a 4-star luxury hotel and
a subsidiary of Canadia Group.
This was not the first time that the Purchasing
Team has visited Sihanouk Ville, but this was an
exciting and memorable trip made possible after
paying great effort in achieving our goal and
receiving the reward in the amount of 2,400 USD.
Our team members tried their best to successfully
complete all the tasks related to the projects of
Canadia Group which led to obtaining financial
reward. Under the motivating management of Mr.
Luis Chen, Head of Purchasing Department, plus
the substantial cooperation contributed by all staff
members, the team attained the set target, and
was highly commended by the Chairman.
During this romantic time, some gentlemen
expressed their aspiration in a well-mannered
way to invite some ladies to dance, sing, and
have some barbecue on the beach. It was such a
wonderful night that we will never forget. During
our stay at Sihanouk Ville, the team members felt
comfortable with the warm weather and splendid
coastal landscape.
The Purchasing Team would like to express our
heartfelt appreciation to the Head of Purchasing
Department who encourages and leads the team
to achieve our goal. And most especially to the
Chairman who always support us. This trip has
motivated us to work harder, and we will try our
best to produce more results for Canadia Bank as
well as for the Group.
We have shared many fun activities and belt out
some popular songs together while heading our
way to Sihanouk Ville, thus easing the tiredness
and boredom during our long journey. The travel
lasted for almost 5 hours, but we arrived there safe
and sound. After properly laying in our luggage, we
had a sumptuous candlelight buffet at the fabulous
hotel’s restaurant.
Written by Trinh Mey, Settlement Officer, Cana Securities
Translated by Lorn Sokhiang, Cana Securities Representative
In order to promote unity, increase mutual
understanding and communication between Cana
Securities’s staff, and under the compelling support
of Mr. Michael Chan, CEO of Cana Securities,
the company organized a trip to Sihanouk Ville,
the renowned coastal city in Cambodia. The
trip was the first outdoor activity conducted by
the company since its business has commenced
about a year ago. This trip was enthusiastically
supported by all staff, and the registered number
of participants was more than two thirds of the
overall employees. The organizers were the
personnel in-charge of Human Resources affairs
who allocated their free time one month ahead,
to prepare this company trip with anticipation of
obtaining a memorable and precious experience
for all participants.
The two-day and one night event began on
Saturday, 22 nd September 2012, after the working
hours at around 12:00 noon. By travelling along
National Road number 4, the group stopped-over
at the midway to have lunch in a restaurant named
Phnom Tep which is famous for its variety of meat
dishes. After travelling for about 4 hours, the group
arrived at Sihanouk Ville around 4:00p.m., and
went directly to the hotel for accomodation.
The hotel where we stayed was at the
Independence Hotel, a four-star luxury
boutique hotel which is a subsidiary of
Canadia Group. After checking in, we drove
the hotel’s transit electric car across the road
surrounded by greeneries heading toward our
hotel room, and it took about five minutes
from the reception area. After laying in our
luggage, some cheerful activities were done.
All participants took this opportunity taking
photographs, and sight-seeing the stunning
sea view of Independence Beach.
Around 7:00 p.m, we went to the Golden
Beach Restaurant to have dinner. We sit at the
beach enjoying our sumptous dinner, while
the cold and fresh wind blowing from the sea
enhanced the meal experience. After having
dinner, we went to a KTV to sing in order to
ease out and completely enjoy the evening.
In the morning of the second day, after having
buffet breakfast served at the Coral Restaurant
located at Independence Hotel, we headed to
our last destination which is the most famous
and most attractive beach in Sihanouk Ville,
the Ochheuteal Beach. Around 3:00 p.m., we
left Sihanouk Ville and came back to Phnom
Penh.
Though some scheduled events were
cancelled due to heavy rains, all of us had
a variety of remarkable memories that
is everlasting and will stay in our hearts.
More importantly, this field trip has met the
objectives of increasing mutual understanding,
and building communciation and unity among
the employees.
