<strong>Trinidad</strong> Carnival is called “The<br />
Mother <strong>of</strong> All Carnivals.” It is a oncein-a-lifetime<br />
experience that has its<br />
origin in the French plantocracy in<br />
the 1800s, but has now evolved<br />
into a national <strong>and</strong> international festival.<br />
The <strong>Trinidad</strong> model <strong>of</strong> exquisite costuming<br />
<strong>and</strong> revelry is now copied by carnivals in the<br />
Caribbean, North America <strong>and</strong> Europe.<br />
The <strong>Trinidad</strong> Carnival is unique <strong>and</strong> has been<br />
rated as highly as those in New Orleans <strong>and</strong><br />
Brazil. But it is the colour <strong>and</strong> gaiety, plus<br />
costuming <strong>and</strong> creativity that have pushed T&T<br />
Carnival above all, earning the title “The Greatest<br />
Show on Earth.” There are over one hundred<br />
carnivals based on the <strong>Trinidad</strong> model.<br />
The package <strong>of</strong> pan, calypso <strong>and</strong> masquerade<br />
(mas) combined, forms an exciting mix that<br />
brings hundred <strong>of</strong> thous<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> visitors to this<br />
country annually <strong>and</strong> churns up some TT$800<br />
million in economic benefits.<br />
