8. Grant income
Grant income refers to grants received from the Economic Development Board of Singapore
and the National Computer Board, for the development of the AsiaOne websites and
SingaporeConnect respectively.
9. Income tax
There was no income tax charge for the Company as it was operating at a tax loss position for
the period under review.
10. Net earnings (loss) per share
Net earnings (loss) per share is calculated by dividing the net profit (loss) for the financial year/
period attributable to ordinary shareholders by the Company’s share capital during each period
of 100,000,000 shares of S$0.10 each.
Proforma net earnings (loss) per share is calculated by dividing the net profit (loss) for the
financial year/period attributable to ordinary shareholders by the proforma share capital during
each period of 1,000,000,000 shares of S$0.05 each taking into account the Company’s share
issue on March 15, 2000 and share split on April 4, 2000 (see note 21).
The following reflects the profit (loss) and share data used in the net earnings (loss) per share
and proforma net earnings (loss) per share computations for the financial years ended August
31, 1997, 1998 and 1999 and the six-month period ended February 29, 2000.
