the very edge of the beach causing
landing aircraft to pass only a few feet

Aircraft range from large to small Airbus
and Boeing types (long haul to short
haul), and smaller ‘island-hoppers’ like BN
Islanders, Dash 8s, Shorts 360, etc; and
plenty of biz-jets at this very popular
‘celeb’ holiday destination.
Do as much or as little aviation as you like: you can spot and/or photograph from the hotel’s grounds,
around the airport’s perimeter, and from the Sunset Beach Bar above: the perfect ‘oasis’ for all aviation
enthusiasts.
Explore the island or adjacent islands by day trip boats; or take a flight with the local commuter airlines,
for example: St Barth Commuter (BN Islanders), Windward Express (BN Islanders and Twin Otters), LIAT
Caribbean Airlines (Dash-8s), etc.
Nearby is St Barth island: it’s famous – or infamous – airport’s runway starts at the top of a steep hill and
runs right into the sea! Landings there are better than a ride at Alton Towers!

From 05:00hrs. please meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager and fellow enthusiasts in Air France’s check-in
area which is located on the Departures level of Terminal 4 at London's Heathrow Airport. Latest
recommended check-in time is 90 minutes: 05:10hrs..

On arrival we proceed to the departure gate of our connecting flight to St Maarten.

On arrival we transfer by coach to the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino Hotel ideally located
alongside the approach to the runway (the rooms are soundproofed), and recommended as ‘THE’ place to
stay by fellow enthusiasts.
From the hotel it’s a 100 yards walk to the beach and the warm Caribbean waters, and where directly
under the approach itself, the aircraft are only feet above your head!

Five glorious days to enjoy as you wish: aviation,
sightseeing, shopping or even relaxing!
This photo is taken from the Sunset Bar on the far
side of the beach - the favourite place to relax - with
aircraft passing before your eyes!
The bar also relays live air traffic control radio from
the Tower over their PA system; there is a surfboard
showing the day's arrivals and departures; and, of
course, refreshing cold beers and hot and cold meals
- Heaven!
Thursday is Halloween Night – in the Caribbean, with its ancient rituals of magic and voodoo!!

GENERAL INFORMATION
Payment for Ian Allan Aviation Tours
A deposit of £300.00 per person per tour should accompany your Booking Form, with the balance due 10
weeks prior to the tour’s departure. Please see your Booking Confirmation/Invoice for the exact date.
Please note that a reminder of the payment date will not be sent.
Passports and Visas
Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport which must be valid for at least 6
months from the date of your return to the UK. You may also refer to the World Travel Guide website:
www.wtgonline.com for general information on passports, visas and health requirements.
UK citizens do not require a visa to enter the Dutch Antilles.
Non-UK citizens should contact the Dutch Embassy in their country of residence for specific information
and instructions.
Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Advice
The FCO's consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day consular staff around the world

up-to-date passport, visa and security information on the destination you intend visiting.

Baggage Weight Restrictions – UK Airports
Since 1 st June 2004, any single piece of checked baggage weighing more than 70lbs (32kgs) has not
been accepted at check-in by any airline operating from London’s Heathrow Airport. The BAA may
introduce this limit at their other airports in the UK (and so might non-BAA airports), in an attempt to
reduce manual handling injuries amongst airport staff. Please bear this in mind when packing your
suitcase.
Baggage Allowance – Air France
Checked Baggage Allowance: the current allowance is 1 piece of luggage per passenger, weighing up
to 23kg (50lbs), and no bigger than 158cm (62in).
Hand Baggage Allowance: economy passengers may take 1 piece of hand baggage on board.
Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 26.5lbs/12kg in
weight. You may also take a purse or laptop as a second item, but it must be within the weight limit.
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board: a
handbag, pocketbook or purse (which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a
container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage), an overcoat
or wrap, an umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick, a small camera and/or pair of
binoculars, a reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight and a small amount of duty free goods.
Limited quantities of liquids (individual containers must not exceed 100ml or 3.5 fl oz), are now allowed
as hand baggage but must be carried separately through security in a clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable
bag that does not exceed 20cm x 20cm (8 inches x 8 inches), or quart size. Items must fit in the bag
comfortably and the bag must be completely closed. The bag can only contain:
Shampoo, suntan lotions, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and hair spray, perfumes, cosmetics such as
mascara and lip gloss, water and other drinks, soups and syrups and other items of a similar consistency.

Cigarette lighters are NOT permitted in hold baggage or through the security search. These may be
purchased airside.
Hand baggage can include:
Electronic equipment including mobile phones, digital cameras and MP3 players (such as i-Pods). Laptops
must be removed from the bag for x-ray.
Prescription medicines in liquid form, e.g. diabetic kit.
At security all remaining items should be placed in the tray provided for screening, e.g. car keys and
fobs, cash, solid food, books, newspapers, cigarettes and tobacco, belts and shoes. Pushchairs and
walking aids are permitted but must be x-ray screened. All wheelchairs will be subject to search. Please
note: you may be subject to a hand search by the security team and required to remove footwear to be
x-ray screened.
Once in the departure lounge passengers may purchase certain items in any shop and take it onto the
aircraft as normal. Passengers may be subject to a secondary search at the departure gate before
boarding. Any items not on the approved list will be removed.
Meals
Meals are not normally included in the price of our tours unless they are included within the room rate as
we realise that not everyone wants three meals a day. Furthermore, hotel meals can be expensive and in
general, we have found it is better to allow each person to decide for themselves.
In-flight meals when included within the cost of the air ticket form part of the tour price, however some
airlines (primarily European carriers) now only serve refreshments for which they charge accordingly.
On this tour, breakfast at the hotel is included.
Health Requirements
There are no known mandatory health requirements when visiting the Dutch Antilles, although
immunisation against typhoid and polio is recommended. We strongly recommend that you consult your
local doctor or health centre for the latest information.
Climate and Dress
The weather in October should be sunny and warm; in fact temperatures remain within a degree or two
of 85ºF all year round, cooled by trade winds. Also, in the tropics there is chance of the odd short
shower.
Travel Insurance
For citizens of the United Kingdom, Ian Allan Aviation Tours can provide competitive and comprehensive
insurance cover for the duration of your tour. However, if you do not wish to take out our insurance, you
must ensure that comparable or greater cover is taken. The number of your Insurance Policy should be
written, if known, on your Booking Form at the time of making the reservation, but no later than the date
when final payment is due. A copy of the policy must be forwarded to Ian Allan Aviation Tours.
Individual insurance policies are arranged through CoverMore Insurance Services Limited; the premiums
for which will vary according to your circumstances. Full details are available on request.
The Policies for the USA also include cover for non-scheduled flights, i.e. pleasure flights, where the
aircraft is licensed and insured to undertake such flights, and where a payment is made.
Wheelchair Assistance at Airports.
Anyone requiring wheelchair assistance at airports must have this service requested and confirmed in
advance. Airlines and/or airports can no longer provide this service without prior confirmation, therefore,
please annotate your booking form accordingly.
Flexible Itinerary
We are very happy for enthusiasts to take time away from the printed itinerary to pursue their own
interests during multi-day stays in the same place, so long as they inform the Tour Manager. It will be
the individual’s responsibility to ensure that they re-join the group in the hotel at the stated time on the
day of departure.

Land Only Price
For enthusiasts who would prefer to join the tour in St Maarten (instead of flying from the UK with the
main group), we will be very pleased to provide a ‘Land Only’ price. This price does not include any
flights whatsoever and you are strongly advised to contact us before making your own flight
arrangements in the event that there has been a change to the published itinerary.
Please note that a ‘Land Only’ price is based on you meeting the tour at the hotel and includes neither
arrival nor departure airport transfers although should your arrival/departure coincide with that of the
group, a seat will be offered when available for an appropriate supplement.
Flight Timings & Connecting Travel Arrangements to Departure Airport
All flight departure and arrival times are correct at the time of preparing each itinerary, however, airlines
may change these times with little or no prior warning. In practice such changes are only a few minutes
either way and the final itinerary will show the actual times. Clients making their own arrangements to
get to the departure airport by air, rail, coach etc., should bare the above in mind if purchasing nonrefundable
or non-changeable tickets. Ian Allan Aviation Tours cannot be held responsible for any
changes to flight times, and any privately arranged travel tickets to the airport becoming invalid.

Meet & Greet Car Parking: from your home or overnight hotel, simply drive directly to Terminal 4, to
the “Pick-Up and Drop Off” area, located on the top level, and park in the right-hand lane. Here you will
be met by a chauffeur and your car will then be taken to an off-airport, secure, car park while you walk
the few yards to the lift and go through into the terminal! On your return the chauffeur and your car will
be waiting for you at the same place you dropped it off. Simple and very convenient. Recommended by

Pleasure Flights – Disclaimer
Should you decide to undertake any pleasure/sightseeing flights which have not been offered or
sanctioned by us, Ian Allan Aviation Tours will not be held liable for any injuries or death resulting
thereon.
Tours Affected by World Events or Unforeseen/Unplanned Circumstances
In an ever-changing world, events may occur immediately before or during a tour that result in
cancellations or changes to the tour itinerary. For example, an increase in security may result in an
approved visit being cancelled by the host, etc.. Ian Allan Aviation Tours cannot be held responsible for
any tour being cancelled, or itineraries affected, due to world events or circumstances beyond our
control.
