Textbook Required:
Laboratory Manual for Introductory Geology, 2 nd Ed. By Ludman & Mashak
Attendance:
REQUIRED. Students are expected to attend every lab session. Two are more
absences will result in automatic failing grade for the lab portion of the course. If you
cannot attend lab due to an emergency please contact me prior to lab. Make up labs might
be available depending on the set up time required for the lab and the circumstances
causing you to miss lab (it will be at my discretion for whether you will be allowed to make
up the lab or not).
Objective:
To apply the principles and concepts you learn in lecture toward critical thinking
questions and activities allowing you to better understand physical geology. Lab will be a
combination of assignments, field trips, and tests. Local field trips will take us out of the
classroom to see geology in action.
Grades:
Your total Lab grade counts toward 25% of your total Course Grade. I have broken
down grades for the lab into the point system below:
12 weekly lab assignments (each 20 points) 240
1 desert & glacier homework 10
1 rocks & minerals quiz 30
1 comprehensive lab final __50__
Total: 330
Lab assignments will be due at the beginning of lab on the following week. Late
assignments will not be accepted. There will be one homework assignment I will hand out
before Thanksgiving Break so that you will be introduced to desert and glacial
environments before the lab final.
I encourage you to work together, however, the work you turn in needs to be YOUR OWN.
By attending UF and enrolling in this course you’ve agreed that "On my honor, I have
neither given nor received unauthorized aid in doing this assignment." All students
are expected to adhere to the student honor code, any cheating or plagiarism will not be
tolerated. http://www.dso.ufl.edu/judicial/honorcode.php
Classroom Accommodations:
Students with disabilities should contact the instructor as soon as possible to
discuss appropriate accommodations. The Dean of Students Disability Resource center
