<strong>1995</strong>-<strong>96</strong><br />
Status <strong>of</strong> Official Language<br />
In pursuance <strong>of</strong> the Government <strong>of</strong> India's Official Language policy various steps<br />
were taken to promote the usage <strong>of</strong> Hindi in Office-work. TI,e <strong>Institute</strong> is the Convener <strong>of</strong> the<br />
City's Implementation Conunittee <strong>of</strong> Official Language Unit-II. The meetings <strong>of</strong> the Committee<br />
are held regularly.<br />
'Hindi Pakhwara' was organised in the <strong>Institute</strong> from September 14-28, <strong>1995</strong>. On<br />
this occasion several competitions like Hindi Typing, Debate and a Kavya Sandhya, etc.<br />
were organised and prizes were distributed to the winners. Six <strong>of</strong>ficers/employees were encouraged<br />
with incentive awards for doing <strong>of</strong>ficial work in Hindi. On this occasion a compilation<br />
'Pankhudian' (in Hindi) was released.<br />
A two-day Hindi Workshop on December 21-22, <strong>1995</strong> was also organised. Forty<br />
eight members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Institute</strong>-Scientific, Technical and Administrative, were trained for<br />
doing <strong>of</strong>ficial work in Hindi and 22 other trainees from other organisations under Unit-II<br />
and other sister institutions participated in the Workshop. Sri R.D. Ram, Director, All India<br />
Radio, Lucknow inaugurated the workshop and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor S.P. Dixit, Head <strong>of</strong> the Department<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hindi and Modem Indian Languages, Lucknow University was the Chief Guest.<br />
The facility for working in Devnagri has been provided on available computers.<br />
Seven per cent <strong>of</strong> the work is done on computers in Hindi. Twenty five PC and two S<strong>of</strong>twares<br />
'Akshar' and 'Davebase' were purchased. Various forms have also been made bilingual. A<br />
post <strong>of</strong> Hindi Translator was also created to promote the usage <strong>of</strong> Hindi in the <strong>of</strong>fice work.<br />
This year, 36 new books have been added to the list <strong>of</strong> Hindi books in the Library <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
