Electronic Data Processing Unit<br />
This unit was involved in the following activities:<br />
Planning and up-keep <strong>of</strong> the Magnum and Personnel Computers (PC-AT<br />
486DX-3,PC-AT 486SX-6,PC-AT 286-2,PC-XT-6,PC-7); updating <strong>of</strong> Library Information<br />
Management System; S<strong>of</strong>tware development for Scientific, Administration and Accounts<br />
Section; Technical support to staff; Basic maintenance <strong>of</strong> the systems; Hardware and S<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
acquisition, and Planning for the coming year.<br />
The Library Information Management System has been working very well and<br />
updating have been carried out from time to time so as to recover the data in case <strong>of</strong> failures<br />
<strong>of</strong> hard disc.<br />
Programming <strong>of</strong> budget casting for the year, monthly accounts, report and cash<br />
book in SOITBASE 2 was also carried out for Accounts Section. Designing and Laser<br />
printing <strong>of</strong> various charts, banners, displays, slides and posters were done for the Scientific<br />
and Technical staff who participated in the Indian Science Congress, various conferences,<br />
symposia, etc. for oral and poster presentation <strong>of</strong> data.<br />

High Resolution Laser Printer (Model HP Laserjet 5MP)<br />
Color Deskjet Printer (Model Modi JP450)<br />
Black/White Scanner (Model HP Scanjet 3P)<br />
Compact Disk Drive (Model Sony CD-ROM 55E)<br />
Three PC-AT 486DX Systems have been upgraded with 1GB HDD and 12MB RAM<br />
for the effective usage <strong>of</strong>Window'95 and MS-Office 4.3.<br />
S<strong>of</strong>tware:<br />
Micros<strong>of</strong>t Visual C++ V 2 .0 on CD-ROM, A developmental tool.<br />
Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office Pr<strong>of</strong>essional 4.3, Integrated s<strong>of</strong>tware having a Wordprocessor, Spreadsheet,<br />
Relational Database and Presentation tool.<br />
Micros<strong>of</strong>t Windows 95, a Graphical Operating System.<br />
With the acquisition <strong>of</strong> above peripherals and s<strong>of</strong>twares, high quality outputs <strong>of</strong><br />
charts, graphs, posters, banners, OHP transparencies, slides, text, etc. for presentation and<br />
publishing is being done. Also, the development work under Windows has been taken up to<br />
make the utilities more user friendly.<br />
