Jagdalpur Shale and Limestone Formation (JSLF) is in progress. Some of the limestone
samples on maceration yielded few f0I1115which are poorly preserved. A trace fossil zone
has been recorded from JSLF. A new microbial carbonate locality has been recorded from
Bastar Village in Bastar District. A trace fossil comparable to Oldhamia has been noted.
Project - 303)
Studied carbonaceous macrofossils-Chuaria and Tawuia and their allied morphological
forms, viz., Ramapuraea, Amjhorea, Rohtasea, Sinosabellidiles and
I'rotoarenicola from the Halkal Formation, Bhima Group exposed at Kolkur and Gangurti
in Karnataka. On the basis of present observation it has been concludcd that thcy reprcsent
different stages of a singlc biological cntity, i.e., Chuaria. Organic walled microfossils
Leiosphaeridia, Myxococcoides. Eomycetopsis and vase-shaped forms wcre also recorded
from the same materials. The ovcrall assemblage suppports for the age ranging between
1000-850 Ma.
Recorded cyanophycean algae and acritarch from the brachiopod bearing bcds of
Lower Tal Formation, Mussooric Syncline. The assemblage is represented by thalloids, tubular
forms cf. Vendotaenia, Orbruchevella, Micrhystridium, Symplassosphaeridium and
Leiosphaeridia. This supports that the Lower Tal represents Prccambrian I Cambrian
transition of Tal Formation.
Project II Vegetational history, palaeoenvironment and climatic changes
during Siwalik in west-central Nepal
Objective Todevelop vegetational history ofrtlllria Group (Siwalik) based
on systematic study (~lplant fossils from some selected
stratigraphically dated section.\· in west-central Nepal
7() synthesize the data integrating the geologicalfindings to interpret
the palaeoenvironment and climatic changes in the area
Out of a fairly rich collection of leaf-impressions from Tinau KJlOla,Binai KJlOla
and Arung KJlOla, 18 more new taxa have been identified, belonging to 16 genera of 12
dicotyledonous families. They are Glllleria, Orophea, MilillSG (Annonaceae). Gynocardia
(Flacourtiaceae), ,)'lwrea. Hopea (Dipterocarpaceae). Durio, GrewlG (Tiliaceae), Chisocheton
(Meliaceae), Ventilago (Rhamnaceae), Swintonia (Anacardiaceae), Milragyna.
Mussaendopsis (Rubiaceae), AlangilIIn (Alangiaceae), Homonoia (Euphorbiaccae) and Fi
