Programme 5.3
Objective
H.K. Mahcshwari,
Usha Bajpai & (H.M. Kapoor)
Programme 5.2 Palynofloras of the Tethyan sediments of the Himalaya, their
provenance and regional relationship
Objective To search palynofossils in well dated sequence of Palaeozoic
and Mesozoic sediments of Niti (Spiti), Malla .lohar (Kumaon)
and Kashmir ((Juryul ravine and Pahalgaon)
The manuscript has been revised and corrected on the palynostratigraphic study
done in Late Permian, Early Triassic and Late Jurassic sequences in Tethyan sedimcnts of
Niti area.
R.S. Tiwari, Vijaya, [YD. Mamgain & R.S. Misra, GSIl
Manuscript on palynostratigraphic study done in Pcrmian and Early Triassic scquences
in Tcthyan sediments of Spiti area has becn finalizcd.
R.S. Tiwari. Vijaya, Ram-Awatar & [T. Singh, WIHG]
Chemical proccssing of 50 rock samplcs of Spiti Shalc. Malia Johar arca. has been
done for the recovery of palynofossils.
Vijaya & IS Kumar, Lucknow University]
Palynostratigraphic studies, evaluation of rank and properties
of coal and associated s~diments in eastern Himalaya
7'0 correlate the palynoflora with petrography or coal and to
compare with the known palynofloras from the peninsular
Gondwana
To reconstruct marine pathways, palaeoecology and
palaeoenvironment during the deposition of the Permian sediments
in Siang D,strict
The coal and carbonaceous shale collected earlicr from Kalijhora River section,
north ofSiliguri were remacerated. The pollcn contcnts do not relcase from the matrix as the
sediments are highly affectcd by a dyke in the close proximity.
A manuscript on microfossil contents offaunal coal balls from Arunachal Pradesh
was finalised. The mioflora have been compared with Karharbari mioflora of peninsular
India and Late Sakmarian of Westem Australia. The scolecodont, conodont microforaminifera
present in the assemblage suggest deposition in a lagoon.
