Science Fair<br />

With a goal of increasing interest<br />

in Chemistry among youth, the<br />

XIII Regional Meeting - SBQ-Rio<br />

promoted a science fair with chemistry<br />

presentations. At the <strong>INCT</strong>-INOFAR<br />

stand, the Meeting audience could get to<br />

know more about the research activities<br />

in the discovery of a 100% Brazilian<br />

medication, and the initiatives in the<br />

areas of Scientific Awareness and Health<br />

Education. At this occasion, <strong>INCT</strong>-<br />

INOFAR also conducted a poll on<br />

contraceptive methods and population<br />

control. The results of this poll will be<br />

the basis for the third booklet produced<br />

by the Institute, this time focusing on<br />

the correct use of contraceptives.<br />

Engineering and high school students<br />

visited the <strong>INCT</strong>-INOFAR stand.<br />

<strong>INCT</strong>-INOFAR<br />

Innovation Medal<br />

At the closing of the XIII Regional Meeting<br />

- SBQ-Rio, <strong>INCT</strong>-INOFAR awarded<br />

the first <strong>INCT</strong>-INOFAR Innovation<br />

Medal, an acknowledgement of Institute<br />

researchers who actively participated in<br />

the Discovery of new synthetic routes for<br />

future generic drugs.<br />

Prof. Luiz Carlos Dias and Dr. Adriano<br />

Siqueira Vieira of the UNICAMP Institute<br />

of Chemistry were awarded the medal for<br />

the discovery of a new way to produce<br />

atorvastatin, and Prof. Angelo da Cunha<br />

Pinto and Dr. Barbara Vasconcellos da<br />

Silva, of the <strong>UFRJ</strong> Institute of Chemistry,<br />

for the new synthesis route of Sunitinib.
