Pharmaceutical
Innovation
With the help of its entire research network, INCT-INOFAR studies and develops several
subprojects classified as radical innovation. It is also a part, in a more minor role, in
incremental innovation subprojects, studying new routes for the total synthesis of generic
pharmaceuticals.
In the field of radical innovation, the Institute aims to discover/invent original substances,
active in in vivo pharmacological models, widely validated, that are capable of originating
new pharmaceutical candidates in several therapeutic classes.
In the field of incremental innovation, INCT-INOFAR leads projects that focus on the
search of new, efficient, and accessible synthetic routes, for generic drugs already available
in the market – and that represent important tools in public health policies and in the
pharmaceutical care of the population – as well as for those medications that are about to
have their patents expire, and that represent new business opportunities from a marketing
point of view.
