Osnovno Nemethovo likovno opredjeljenje za grafiku razvilo se u dvije prividno različite grane. S jedne strane<br />

u gestualni crtež, a s druge u svojevrsne likovne poliptihe u kojima osnovna forma preoblikovanjima i otiscima<br />

stvara složene scene intrigantnoga likovnog scenarija. Nemeth u crtežima, često i neuobičajeno velikih<br />

formata, osmišljenih masama crnila, oblikuje ekspresio nističkom pokrenutošću površinu bogate sadržajnosti.<br />

Trovrsnošću akromatskog, crnog, sivog, bijelog, nastaju plohe oblikovne slojevitosti, sklada i sraza masa kompozicijskog<br />

jedinstva, formi proizišlih iz neposrednosti iskaza, osvojene slobode poteza unutar kojeg prepoznajemo<br />

Nemethove rukopisne značajke, dinamiku (čak vid agresivnosti) slikarske emotivnosti opredmećenoj u energiji<br />

polja. Na prvi pogled apstraktnog izričaja, slikarske nepredmetnosti koja ipak otkriva motiviku asocijativnog<br />

karaktera. Nemeth, iako imenuje slike “Bez naziva”, slika dramu čovjeka, smisao postojanja, njegovo fizičko<br />

i duhovno razaranje, potaknuto konkretnim situacijama, ali i onim kontinuiranim egzistencijalnim i esencijalnim<br />

pitanjima i sumnjama. Ciklus, nastao 1995. godine, realiziran u zgusnutosti vremena, odraz je razmišljanja<br />

i senzibilnog doživljavanja stvarnosti, prepunoj paradoksa, strahova, ali i traga nade. Udaljavajući se od klasično<br />

lijepog, Nemeth nije izgubio osjećaj za red, odmjerenost fragmenata u prožetosti “pozitiva” i “negativa”, postižući<br />

i slutnju dubine prostora te uzdižući bjeline do blistavosti svjetla. U kompozicijama naznačene simetričnosti<br />

i pomaknutih akcenata zbivanja, zgušnjavanja u jednom polu slike i otvaranja na drugom, razvijaju se stanja<br />

psihogramske ispovjednosti. Ono racionalno u pristupu podržava likovnu i sadržajnu ideju, no u stvaralačkom<br />

procesu uzbudljivost čina prihvaća i kontroliranu slučajnost, razvijanje mrlje do nepredvidivosti obrisa, preplete<br />

crtačkog tkiva dovedene do probijanja zadanih koridora. Oblikovni krateri živi su organizmi, sukladni autentičnosti<br />

umjetnikova unutrašnjeg svijeta i traženje su istine snagom uvjerenja, putem relativno reduciranih likovnih<br />

sredstava. Nemeth je shvatio da neboje, crno i bijelo, predstavljaju i sve boje, početak su i kraj, sukus kromatske<br />

raskoši, dostatne za razumijevanje odnosa, za tankoćutnost dijaloga i udare do bola, za sav repertoar ljudskih<br />

raspoloženja. Slike su preslik Nemethovih treptaja trenutka, ali i kumuliranja iskustva, koje u njegovu predanju<br />

likovnom svježinom i kreativnom uvjerljivošću postaju djelo.<br />

U drugom segmentu izložbe, u stripovskom slijedu crteža, suodnosa bliskih animiranom filmu, Nemeth oblicima<br />

geometrijske čistoće sklada likovne priče, s nenametljivim provlačenjem note humornog. Figurativno je približio<br />

znaku primjenjujući oblike čitke siluete, s promjenjivošću elemenata kroz postavljene kadrove. Četiri isječka<br />

postavljena u dva para, jedni ispod drugih, sugeriraju kretanje u mijeni oblikovne činjeničnosti. Nemeth pretiskom<br />

i kolažiranjem postiže zanimljive pomake izmaštanih likova. Osim toga, Miroslav Nemeth transparentnošću<br />

papira, s izvorom svjetla u konstrukciji slike dobiva novu dimenziju u izražajnosti linija, tretmana prostora i<br />

jasnoću u praćenju tematskih varijacija.<br />

Vidljivo je da je Nemeth umjetnik sklon izazovima, s ravnopravnim prepuštanjem crtačkoj bujnosti, ali i minucioznoj<br />

razradi likovnog koncepta. Ostajući svoj, s poveznim nitima unutar različitosti izgrađenog opusa.<br />

Nemeth’s fundamental artistic commitment to graphics has developed into two seemingly different branches. On<br />

one hand there is the gestural drawing, and on the other there are certain fine art poliptychs where the reshaping<br />

and printing of the basic form creates complex scenes and thus an intriguing artistic scenario. In his mostly<br />

large-format paintings Nemeth with the thought-through black masses and with expressionistic skill shapes<br />

a surface of a full content. Three types of achromatic colours, black, grey and white result in surfaces which are<br />

layered in its shapes, where harmony and collision take place between the masses of compositional unity, where<br />

forms evolve out of the immediacy of presentation, where the mastered freedom of brush which defines Nemeth’s<br />

signature is shown in characteristics such as dynamics (even a hint of aggression) in the painting sensitivity, as<br />

realised in the energy of the field. At a first glance his expression is abstract but the non objectivity of his painting<br />

still reveals motifs of associative character. Even if Nemeth titles his paintings ‘Untitled’, he presents human<br />

drama, the meaning of existence, its physical and spiritual destruction, initiated by concrete situations and also<br />

by those continuous existential and essential questions and doubts. The cycle from 1995, realised in a short period<br />

of time, is a reflection of thought and sensibility towards the experience of reality which is full of paradox,<br />

fear, but which also contains a streak of hope. When distancing himself from what is classically beautiful Nemeth<br />

does not lose touch with order, steadiness of fragments in the imbuement of ‘positives’ and ‘negatives’, thus also<br />

achieving the premonition of the depth of space and lifting the whiteness to the brilliance of light. The compositions<br />

of designated symmetry and removed accents of events, of density on one pole of the painting and opening<br />

on the other, develop states of psychogramic confession. What is rational in the approach supports the artistic<br />

and contextual idea, but in the process of creation the thrill of the act accepts controlled coincidence as well,<br />

the development of a smear into unexpected contours, intertwined artistic tissue brought to the breach of the<br />

set corridors. The shaping craters are live organisms, in accordance with the authenticity of the author’s internal<br />

world and they represent the search for truth powered by belief, on the path of relatively reduced artistic means.<br />

Nemeth realised that the non colours, the black and the white, also represent all colours, that they are the beginning<br />

and the end, the essence of chromatic wealth worthy of the understanding of relationships, for insensitiveness<br />

of dialogue and painful blows, for the entire repertoire of human moods. The paintings show Nemeth’s copy<br />

of the blink of a moment, but also the accumulation of experience, which because of his devotion to artistic freshness<br />

and creative credibility become a work of art.<br />

With regard to the other segment of the exhibition, in the strip-like succession of drawings, where relationships<br />

are similar to those of an animated film, Nemeth uses forms of geometrical purity to compose artistic stories,<br />

while unobtrusively inserting notes of humour. He brought the figurative nearer to the sign while applying clear<br />

silhouette forms with interchanging of elements through the set scenes. Four extracts set in two pairs, one under<br />

the other, suggest movement in the exchange of formative factuality. With double press and collage Nemeth<br />

achieves interesting moves of the imagined characters. Furthermore, with the transparency of paper and the<br />

source of light inside the construction of the painting Miroslav Nemeth achieves a new dimension in the expressiveness<br />

of lines, treatment of space and a clarity in following thematic variations.<br />

It is obvious that Nemeth is an artist prone to challenges; he gives over to the exuberance of painting equally, but<br />

carefully contemplates the artistic concept. He remains true to himself and while his opus is diverse there are<br />

threads inside it which bind it together.<br />

ŽIVOTOPIS<br />

Miroslav Nemeth rođen je 8. kolovoza 1968. godine u Zagrebu. Vrijeme ranog djetinjstva provodi u<br />

bezbrižnom odrastanju u obitelji, gdje uz oca, već poznatog arhitekta, počinje crtati motive iz svakodnevnog<br />

života, igre i druženja s vršnjacima, te posebno likove iz stripova koje pasionirano kupuje. Želi nastaviti<br />

školovanje na Školi za primijenjenu umjetnosti, no upisuje se na Građevinsku školu u Novom Zagrebu, u<br />

kojoj, tijekom školovanja, sve više vremena provodi uz crtaći blok i svakodnevno crtanje, sa željom da likovno<br />

usavršavanje nastavi na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti. Konačno 1987. upisuje se na pedagoški smjer<br />

Akademije likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu. U likovnom sazrijevanju Miroslava Nemetha važan su doprinos<br />

dali već afirmirani profesori na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti: Dubravka Babić, Zlatko Keser, Rudi Labaš<br />

i Ivica Šiško, nudeći svojim studentima svu raskoš mogućnostî koje je pružala moderna umjetnost. Nakon<br />

druge godine studija, tijekom 1990. i 1991., Nemeth se s posebnim žarom uključio u grafičku klasu prof.<br />

Ivice Šiška. Kreativna atmosfera bila je vrlo poticajna. Počinje stvarati svoj likovni jezik pod utjecajima<br />

povijesnih avangardi i novih trendova u umjetnosti. Sudjeluje na izložbi studenata grafike u Malom salonu<br />

Moderne galerije u Rijeci. U Zagrebu sudjeluje na apsolventskoj izložbi te 1992. godine na XXIII. salonu<br />

mladih. S grupom umjetnika, kolega s Akademije, 1993. godine sudjeluje na izložbi u Kopenhagenu<br />

“Crosing over-Zagreb-Kobenhavn”, u organizaciji Željka Zorice i Muzeja suvremene umjetnosti i kustosa<br />

Tihomira Milovca, te na izložbi “container art”, priređenoj na jednom trgu u danskome glavnom gradu.<br />

Prvu samostalnu izložbu priređuje u Galeriji CEKAO pod nazivom “Rekonstrukcije”. Kao diplomski<br />

rad ručno je otisnuo seriju grafičkih otisaka na medijapanu te bio jedan od nagrađenih diplomanata.<br />

Diplomirao je 1995. godine u grafičkoj klasi prof. Ivice Šiška. Iste godine radi strip seriju radova “Izvan igre”,<br />

koju je realizirao u tehnici linoreza, na više od 150 listova po 5 primjeraka. Sa serijom od dvadesetak crteža<br />

velikog formata, snažne ekspresivne crno-bijele geste, Nemeth odgovara na rat i stradanja u Domovinskom<br />

ratu. Povremeno izlaže na kolektivnim izložbama poput Salona mladih i na strip festivalima. Godine 1999.,<br />

na Salonu stripa u Vinkovcima, dobio je treću nagradu za duži strip, a 2001. postaje članom multimedijalne<br />

strip grupe “Divlje oko”, s kojima je imao vrlo zapažene strip izložbe. U najnovije stripove unosi svjetlosni<br />

okvir, pa nastaje serija radova strip objekata pod nazivom “Xeroxarium”, čija je glavna karakteristika moderni<br />

likovni rukopis i transparentnost. U tim radovima zastupa multime dijalni pristup stripu, što njegove<br />

radovi čini manje ilustrativnim, ali likovno potpuno novim u suvremenome likovnom izričaju. Paralelno s<br />

“Divljim okom” nastajali su kontakti sa slovenskim strip entuzijastima i izdavačima svjetski poznatog fanzina<br />

“Stripburger”, koji su mu objavili stripove u nekoliko svojih edicija, a 2003. pozvan je da s njima ide na<br />

veliki strip festival u Berlin i da sudjeluje na izložbi u sklopu festivala “Warburger”, nazvanom prema strip<br />

antologiji, ediciji koju su naši susjedi Slovenci posvetili besmislu rata i objavili s autorima stripova selektiranih<br />

iz čitavog svijeta. U toj ediciji Miroslav Nemeth bio je jedan od sedam jednakovrijedno nagrađenih<br />

autora sa serijom svojih radova u linorezu pod nazivom “Pad armije” (The fall of the army). Posljednji<br />

uradak stripa “stereostrip” izložio je na izložbi natječajnih radova 2010. u Studentskom centru u Zagrebu.<br />

BIOGRAPHY<br />

Miroslav Nemeth was born on 8th August 1968 in Zagreb. He spent his early childhood growing up in<br />

a carefree family environment where the father was a well-known architect, so he began drawing motifs<br />

from everyday life, from playing and socialising with friends, and especially from the characters of the<br />

comic books he read passionately. He wanted to continue his education at the School of Applied Arts but<br />

he enrolled in the School of Construction in Novi Zagreb, where he started spending more and more time<br />

drawing because he wished to continue his artistic education at the Academy of Fine Arts. Finally, in 1987<br />

he started studying there at the department of pedagogy. Among the already well known professors at the<br />

Academy a considerable contribution to Miroslav Nemeth’s artistic growth came from Dubravka Babić,<br />

Zlatko Keser, Rudi Labaš and Ivica Šiško, who all introduced their students to an abundance of possibilities<br />

modern art had to offer. After his second year, during 1990 and 1991, with special enthusiasm Nemeth<br />

joined the graphic class of professor Ivica Šiško, where the creative atmosphere proved to be very encouraging.<br />

Nemeth began creating his own artistic language, either influenced by historical avant-gardes or new<br />

trends in art. He took part in the exhibition given by graphics students at Mali salon of Moderna galerija in<br />

Rijeka. In Zagreb he took part in the graduation exhibit and in 1992 at the XXIII Youth Exhibition. In 1993,<br />

together with a group of friends from the Academy he took part in the Copenhagen exhibition ‘Crossing<br />

over – Zagreb-Kobenhavn’, which was organised by Željko Zorica and the Museum of Contemporary Art<br />

and curator Tihomir Milovac, as well as in exhibition ‘container art’ which took place on one of the squares<br />

in the Danish capital. His first solo exhibition took place at CEKAO gallery and was titled ‘Reconstructions’.<br />

For his diploma work he manually pressed a serial of graphic prints on mediapan and was therefore awarded.<br />

He graduated in 1995 in the graphic class of professor Ivica Šiško. In the same year he made a comic strip<br />

serial ‘Outside the game’, realised in the linocut technique on over 150 sheets and in 5 copies. His serial of<br />

around twenty large format drawings, of powerful and expressive black and white gesture, was a reaction<br />

to war and the victims of the Croatian War of Independence. Occasionally Nemeth took part in collective<br />

exhibitions such as the Youth Exhibition and comic book festivals. In 1999 at the Comics Exhibition in<br />

Vinkovci he was awarded third place for longer comic strip, and in 2001 he became a member of a multimedia<br />

comics group called ‘Wild Eye’, in the association of which he had some very successful exhibitions.<br />

His most recent comic strips feature a light frame, which led to a serial of comic strip objects ‘Xeroxarium’,<br />

the main characteristic of which is a modern fine art signature and transparency. These works show his<br />

multimedia approach to comics, which make them look less illustrational but artistically completely new in<br />

the contemporary artistic expression. In parallel with ‘Wild Eye’ he made contacts with Slovenian comics<br />

enthusiasts and publishers of the world known fanzine ‘Stripburger’, who published his comics in several<br />

editions. In 2003 he was invited to join them on the big comics festival in Berlin as well as to take part in the<br />

exhibition at ‘Warburger’ festival, named after a comics anthology, an edition our neighbours, the Slovenes,<br />

published as a dedication to nonsense of war and the authors of which were selected from all around the<br />

world. In this edition Miroslav Nemeth was one of the seven equally awarded authors with his linocut serial<br />

‘The Fall of the Army’. His most recent comic strip ‘stereostrip’ was shown at the tender exhibition 2010 at<br />

the Student Centre in Zagreb.<br />
