Fire Safety l Think safety for people first!!! l Evacuate the area l Notify the fire department (Dial 911 or PPS or pull box if necessary) l Small fires: use fire extinguishers l On people: use fire blankets
Fire Extinguishers l l l Our labs contain ABC Dry Chemical extinguishers. ABC or Multi-Purpose extinguisher utilize a specially fluidized and siliconized mono ammonium phosphate dry chemical. – It chemically insulates Class A fires by melting at approximately 350°F and coats the surface to which it is applied. – It smothers and breaks the chain reaction of Class B fires and will not conduct electricity back to the operator. If you are working with burning metals, a Class D (164a) or bucket of sand should be in your lab.
