Cut (9) 2-1/2" x wof strips, sew together end-to-end, recut<br />

into (4) 2-1/2" x 92" inside borders<br />

Fabric H 3176-0214 3/8 yard Cut (2) 5-7/8" x wof strip,s recut into (8) 5-7/8" squares, then<br />

cut squares in half on diagonal once to make (16) triangles<br />

Fabric I 3176-0232 1-3/8 yards Cut (8) 5-1/2” x wof strips; recut into (16) 5-1/2” squares and<br />

(4) 5-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangles<br />

Fabric J 3178-0214 1 yard Cut (1) 6-1/4” x wof strip; recut into (4) 6-1/4” squares, then cut<br />

each square on both diagonals to make (16) triangles<br />

Backing: 5-1/3 yards 3174-0211, cut into (2) equal pieces and sew together selvedge to selvedge. Trim to 94" square for backing.<br />

INSTRUCTIONS<br />

Note: This quilt is designed with the Circle of Nine setting using spacers instead of sashings to connect the blocks.<br />

1. Flying Geese units: Refer to Flying Geese Diagram - position a 5-1/2" fabric G square at one end of a 5-1/2" x 10-1/2" fabric D rectangle.<br />

Sew a diagonal line from corner to corner, trim 1/4" from stitching line, fold triangle out to the right side and press. Repeat on the opposite side<br />

of the rectangle with a matching 5-1/2" fabric G square to make a D-G flying geese unit. Repeat to make 16 D-G Eight D-J and four I-C flying<br />

geese units.<br />

2. Square in a Square units: referring to the Square in a Square Diagram, position a 5-1/2" fabric J square on opposite corners of a 10-1/2" fabric<br />

B square. Sew in a diagonal line from corner to corner, trim 1/4" from stitching line, fold triangle out to the right side and press. Repeat on<br />

opposite corner. Repeat to complete four Square in a Square units.<br />

3. Sew a 5-7/8" fabric H triangle to a 5-7/8" fabric G triangle to make a half-square triangle unit. Make 16 units.<br />

4. Sew a D-G flying geese unit to each side of a square-in-a-square unit to make the center row.<br />

5. Sew a G-H half square triangle unit to opposite ends of two D-G flying geese unit to make rows. Sew these rows to opposite sides of the<br />

center row to complete a Fox and Geese block. Repeat to make four blocks.<br />

6. Pieced spacers: Referring to the Pieced Spacer Diagram, sew a quarter-square fabric J triangle unit to two adjacent sides of a 4-1/8" fabric E<br />

square. Make 8 units. Sew the units to a fabric D quarter-square triangle. Make 8 units. Sew two units together to complete the center section of<br />

the spacer. Sew an I-J flying geese unit to each end of the spacer units to complete four spacers.<br />

7. Refer to the Quilt Assembly Diagram for the next steps to sew the quilt together.<br />

8. Sew a spacer between two Fox and Geese blocks to make a row. Make 2 rows. Sew the remaining two spacers to opposite sides of the 10-<br />

1/2" fabric B square to make a spacer row. Sew the block/spacer rows to each side of center spacer row to complete center section of the quilt.<br />

9. Pieced borders: Sew a 5-1/2" fabric C square to each end of a D-J flying geese unit to make a border unit. Make 8 border units. Sew a border<br />

unit to each side of the an I-C flying geese unit to complete a side border strip. Make 4 side border strips. Sew one of these strips to opposite<br />

sides of the quilt center. Sew a 5-1/2" fabric E square to each end of the 2 remaining border strips, sew the borders to the top and bottom of the<br />

quilt center.<br />

10. Sew a fabric G and fabric F border strip to a fabric A border strip; repeat to make four foined border strips.<br />

11. Center and sew the joined border strips to each side of the quilt with an equal amount of border fabric overlapping at each end and stopping<br />

1/4" from the ends of the quilt center. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric; press seams open.<br />

Finishing<br />

12. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Baste, then quilt the layers together.
