Awarded to an outstanding graduating<br />
senior in the applied physics program.<br />
The Edwin Howard Armstrong<br />
Memorial Award<br />
Awarded by the Faculty of Electrical<br />
Engineering to one outstanding<br />
graduating senior and one outstanding<br />
candidate for the M.S. degree, to honor<br />
the late Edwin Howard Armstrong,<br />
professor of electrical engineering<br />
and noted inventor of wideband<br />
FM broadcasting, the regenerative<br />
circuit, and other basic circuits of<br />
communications and electronics.<br />
The Theodore R. Bashkow Award<br />
A cash award presented to a computer<br />
science senior who has excelled in<br />
independent projects. This is awarded<br />
in honor of Professor Theodore R.<br />
Bashkow, whose contributions as a<br />
researcher, teacher, and consultant<br />
have significantly advanced the art of<br />
computer science.<br />
The Charles F. Bonilla Medal<br />
The Bonilla Medal is an award for<br />
outstanding academic merit. It is<br />
presented annually to that student in<br />
the graduating class in the Department<br />
of Chemical Engineering who best<br />
exemplifies the qualities of Professor<br />
Charles F. Bonilla.<br />
The Tullio J. Borri ’51 Award in Civil<br />
Engineering<br />
A certificate and cash prize presented<br />
annually by the Department of Civil<br />
Engineering and Engineering Mechanics<br />
to a senior for outstanding promise of<br />
scholarly and professional achievement<br />
in civil engineering. This award has<br />
been made possible by gifts from the<br />
stockholder/employees and the board<br />
of directors of the Damon G. Douglas<br />
Company, a New Jersey-based general<br />
contractor, in appreciation of Mr. Borri’s<br />
many years of dedicated service and<br />
visionary leadership as chairman and<br />
president.<br />
Computer Engineering Award of<br />
Excellence<br />
Awarded each year by vote of the<br />
computer engineering faculty to an<br />
outstanding senior in the computer<br />
engineering program.<br />
Computer Science Department Award<br />
of Excellence<br />
A $200 cash prize to the student who<br />
has demonstrated outstanding ability in<br />
the field of computer science.<br />
The Edward A. Darling Prize in<br />
Mechanical Engineering<br />
Established in 1903 by a gift from<br />
the late Edward A. Darling, formerly<br />
superintendent of Buildings and<br />
Grounds; a certificate and $100 cash<br />
prize awarded annually to the most<br />
faithful and deserving student of<br />
the graduating class in mechanical<br />
engineering.<br />
The Adam J. Derman Memorial Award<br />
Established in 1989 by family and<br />
friends in memory of Adam J. Derman<br />
’89 and graduate student in the<br />
Department of Industrial Engineering<br />
and Operations Research. A certificate<br />
and cash prize awarded annually by the<br />
Department of Industrial Engineering<br />
and Operations Research to a member<br />
of the graduating class who has<br />
demonstrated exceptional ability to<br />
make computer-oriented contributions<br />
to the fields of industrial engineering and<br />
operations research.<br />

Research Award<br />
Awarded by the faculty of Electrical<br />
Engineering to one outstanding<br />
graduating senior who has<br />
demonstrated outstanding passion and<br />
accomplishment in research.<br />

Service Award<br />
Awarded by the faculty of Electrical<br />
Engineering to one outstanding<br />
graduating senior who has made<br />
significant contributions to the<br />
department and community at large.<br />
The William L. Everitt Student Awards<br />
of Excellence<br />
Given to two students in the Department<br />
of Electrical Engineering who rank in the<br />
top 10 percent of their class, have an<br />
active interest in telecommunications,<br />
and are active in a professional<br />
organization.<br />
Zvi Galil Award for Improvement in<br />
Engineering Student Life<br />
Given annually to the student group that<br />
most improves engineering student life<br />
during the academic year. Established<br />
in honor of Zvi Galil, dean of the School<br />
from 1995 to 2007.<br />
The Jewell M. Garrelts Award<br />
Awarded to an outstanding graduating<br />
senior who will pursue graduate study<br />
in the department that was so long and<br />
successfully shepherded by Professor<br />
Jewell M. Garrelts. This award is made<br />
possible by gifts from alumni and friends<br />
of Professor Garrelts and from the<br />
Garrelts family in honor of an outstanding<br />
engineer, educator, and administrator.<br />
The Carl Gryte Prize<br />
Awarded annually to an undergraduate<br />
student for service to the Department of<br />
Chemical Engineering.<br />
The Stephen D. Guarino Memorial<br />
Award in Industrial Engineering and<br />
Operations Research<br />
A certificate and cash prize established<br />
by a gift from Roger Guarino (1951) in<br />
memory of his son. To be awarded to<br />
one outstanding senior in the Industrial<br />
Engineering and Operations Research<br />
Department who, in the opinion of<br />
the faculty and Board of Managers<br />
of the <strong>Columbia</strong> Engineering School<br />
Alumni Association, has been active<br />
in undergraduate activities and has<br />
displayed leadership, school spirit, and<br />
scholarship achievement.<br />
The Wlliam A. Hadley Award in<br />
Mechanical Engineering<br />
Established in 1973 by Lucy Hadley in<br />
memory of her husband. The award<br />
is made annually in the form of a<br />
certificate and cash to that student<br />
in the graduating class in mechanical<br />
engineering who has best exemplified<br />
the ideals of character, scholarship, and<br />
service of Professor William A. Hadley.<br />
The Thomas “Pop” Harrington Medal<br />
Presented annually to the student who<br />
best exemplifies the qualities of character<br />
that Professor Harrington exhibited during<br />
his forty years of teaching. The medal is<br />
made possible by Dr. Myron A. Coler.<br />
The Yuen-huo Hung and Chao-chin<br />
Huang Award in Biomedical<br />
Engineering<br />
This award has been endowed to<br />
