11. Recommendations<br />
Based on study carried out about mercury <strong>in</strong> sk<strong>in</strong> whiten<strong>in</strong>g creams available <strong>in</strong> Nepalese market,<br />
follow<strong>in</strong>g recommendations have been made:<br />
� Mass awareness program should be launched with specific target group like children and<br />
pregnant women first and then for all.<br />
� Regulatory bodies should be identified and made responsible for effective monitor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the<br />
import, production, sale, distribution, promotion and process as well as market.<br />
� Standard should be enacted <strong>in</strong> order to limit the cmercury content <strong>in</strong> cosmetics. Act and<br />
Regulation must be made and implemented along with effective compla<strong>in</strong>ce monitor<strong>in</strong>g<br />
mechanisms <strong>in</strong> place.<br />
� Harmonize the laws, standard and chemical <strong>in</strong> products across the globe, cont<strong>in</strong>ents, and<br />
regions and even with<strong>in</strong> the country.<br />
� Packag<strong>in</strong>g must have clear labell<strong>in</strong>g about heavy metals like lead, mercury etc. So that general<br />
public could make <strong>in</strong>formed choice <strong>of</strong> select<strong>in</strong>g safe products.<br />
� Producers should put cautionary notice about toxic levels <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>gredients used <strong>in</strong> their cosmetic<br />
products.<br />
� <strong>The</strong> consumers should see the label and enquire if the products they are go<strong>in</strong>g to use are<br />
actually safe for them or not.<br />
� <strong>The</strong> <strong>in</strong>dependent monitor<strong>in</strong>g agencies should be established that will be responsible for<br />
test<strong>in</strong>g and monitor<strong>in</strong>g the heavy metal and other toxic impurities <strong>in</strong> cosmetic products and<br />
make a public dissem<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> the result on regular basis.
