Day 1: Fly to Brazil
Meet your group and travel on an overnight fl ight to Rio
de Janeiro.
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Arrive in Rio de Janeiro: Welcome to Rio de Janeiro, the
Marvelous City. Depending on your arrival time, you may
have free time to settle in and explore the city on your own.
Sightseeing tour of Rio de Janeiro: Historically famous for
its unparalleled natural beauty, Rio de Janeiro is emerging
as a major player in the global economy. On this morning’s
guided tour of the city, see how its history and present-day
are deeply intertwined. Visit the historic Candelária Church,
born of Spanish sailors nearly 400 years ago, and the
Municipal Theater, whose own evolution parallels the rise
of modern Rio. Then, stop at the 17th-century Church of
Santo Antonio before a visit to bustling Carioca Square and
its aqueduct, an impressive example of colonial engineering.
Finally, admire the pristine sands of Rio’s fi rst-class beaches
and the distinguished Urca district on your way to the ultramodern
Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, the colossal downtown
church with room for 20,000 people.
Cable-car up Sugarloaf Mountain: Later, ascend to the
top of iconic Sugarloaf Mountain for more spectacular views,
this time from the other side of the harbor.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
Corcovado and beach tour: Ascend the lush slopes of
Corcovado aboard a cog train. At the summit marked by the
towering statue of Christ the Redeemer, enjoy breathtaking
vistas of the city and beaches below.
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro
Sightseeing tour of Rio: Today’s guided tour takes
you through Colonial Rio, passing by the Metropolitan
Cathedral, Pyramid Fountain, Paço Imperial and São
Bento Monastery.
Day 5: Rio de Janeiro
Tropical island tour: Take a coastal drive southwest of Rio
de Janeiro to the small fi shing village of Iracuruçá (meaning
stone’s cross) on the beautiful Sepetiba Bay. Here you’ll
board a saveiro (two-masted schooner) and spend the
day cruising the sunny emerald waters of the Costa Verde.
Sit back and enjoy all the wildlife including dolphins, giant
kingfi shers, parrots, turtles and stingrays. The area has
calm waters that make it ideal for snorkeling, swimming
and canoeing. Enjoy a swim before you continue on to a
tropical island for lunch.
Day 6: Rio de Janeiro
Cog-wheel train up Corcovado Mountain: Board a cogwheel
that carries you into Tijuca National Park to the top of
the 2,400 feet tall Corcovado (Hunchback) Mountain. This
8,000 acre rainforest was once stripped bare of its native
vegetation by coffee and sugar cane plantations. Today it
remains one of the last remnants of the Atlantic Rainforest
that once dominated the southern cost of Brazil. At the top
stands the statue of Christ the Redeemer, one of the most
famous images of Rio de Janeiro. Weighing more than
1,000 tons, the statue appears to gaze across the bay with
welcoming outstretched arms. Some say it looks as if Christ
is preparing to dive into the waters below. From here, you can
take in a magnifi cent 360-degree view of Rio de Janeiro’s
natural beauty.
Brazilian evening: Feel the frenetic tempo of the samba
during your optional Brazilian evening. Born out of the
fast-paced and fashionable streets of Rio de Janeiro, the
samba compels your feet to move. Shimmering costumes
and thunderous accompaniment give you a glimpse into the
carnival life of this electric city.
Day 7: Rio de Janeiro
Estádio do Maracanã: Tour the largest stadium in South
America, an incredible venue holding more than 78,000
spectators. The arena fi rst opened in 1950 to host the
FIFA World Cup and is currently undergoing renovations, in
order to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Day 8: Depart for home
Take the day to explore Rio at your own pace and pick up
any last minute mementoes. This evening, we’ll transfer to
the airport where you’ll check in for your overnight return
fl ight home.
2-DAY TOUR EXTENSION
Days 8: Rio de Janeiro | Iguazu
Travel to Iguazu: Transfer to the airport for your fl ight to
Iguazu. After your arrival, transfer to your hotel, your base for
exploring one of the world’s most magnifi cent waterfalls.
Visit Iguazu National Park: Travel deep into Iguazu
National Park and take in the beauty of subtropical plants
and trees, including the abundant heart-of-palm. Stop at
the park museum to learn about the local fl ora and fauna
of the tropical forest. The park is home to more than 2,000
plant varieties and nearly 400 bird species, including
toucans, parakeets and hummingbirds.
Days 9: Iguazu
View the falls from the Brazilian side: Depart this morning
for the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls, which boast 275
falls cascading over a precipice nearly two miles wide
and 262 feet high. It’s absolutely breathtaking and nearly
impossible to capture on fi lm or in words—come see for
yourself.
Macuco Safari: Ride the rapids during this adventure of a
lifetime. Feel the intensity of the falls and power of the river
while you explore the pristine waters of Iguazu. Back on
land, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner among friends.
Day 10: Iguazu
View the falls from the Argentine side: Take in the
spectacular sights of the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls.
Walk along the area footbridges for incredible views of the
Alvar Nuñez, Bosseti and Dos Hermanas waterfalls.
relax in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Then,
enjoy a leisurely dinner of local specialities.
