BioSkills Training
2012

BioSkills Training
RIO ® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System for
MAKOplasty ® Partial Knee and Total Hip Applications
Our BioSkills Training course will enable you to
collaborate in a peer-to-peer setting with experienced
MAKOplasty ® surgeons. Each lab will include shared
best practices in patient care, case study analysis,
outcomes, and robotic arm assisted surgical
techniques. The hands-on cadaveric sessions will
provide an opportunity to experience the power
of the patient-specific, computer assisted 3-D
planning software used for pre-surgical planning
and intra-operative adjustments for accurate
implant alignment.

Knee Resurfacing combines the precision
of the RIO ® system with the innovative and
enabling designs of the RESTORIS ® MCK
implant system to achieve accurate implant
placement and optimal soft tissue balance for a
more natural feeling knee. MAKOplasty ® Partial
Accurate Cup Placement
Surgical Results Summary
MAKOplasty ® Total Hip Arthroplasty offers
patient-specific robotic arm assisted accuracy
and precision in acetabular cup placement
and enables improved leg length restoration.
The robotic arm system provides data to
achieve the right combined anteversion,
potentially decreasing the risk for
impingement and dislocation.

Join us for a didactic session and hands-on lab
experience using the RIO ®
System
After completing the learning experience you will be trained
in the use of this breakthrough technology that enables
surgeons to provide an innovative, accurate, and reproducible
solution for patients who would benefit from total hip or partial
knee arthroplasty.
During the lab, which includes the use of cadaveric specimens,
you will have a hands-on opportunity to use the RIO ® Robotic
Arm system to:
• Create a pre-operative plan designed specifically for each
patient’s needs
• Visualize the joint and surgical plan in three dimensions
• Plan to “balance the gap” for optimal soft tissue balance
in the partial knee
• Plan for optimal angle and inclination of the cup, leg
length/offset, and combined anteversion in the total hip
• Experience the surgeon-interactive tactile feedback
provided by the robotic arm
• Understand how the RIO ® system enables surgeons to
accurately reproduce the surgical plan
