A.4 Sanctioning<br />

A.4.1 Applications to hold <strong>Orienteering</strong> <strong>USA</strong> sanctioned events shall be made directly<br />

to the <strong>Orienteering</strong> <strong>USA</strong> Sanctioning Committee Chairman using <strong>for</strong>ms available<br />

from the Sanctioning Committee.<br />

A.4.2 The hosting group must be a Regular <strong>Orienteering</strong> Club as defined in the Bylaws<br />

of the United States <strong>Orienteering</strong> Federation or must enter into the <strong>Orienteering</strong><br />

<strong>USA</strong> Sanctioning Agreement (Third-party sanctioning contract).<br />

A.4.3 The host will pay the necessary sanctioning fees (Section 20) within four weeks<br />

of the closing of the event.<br />

A.4.4 Within two weeks of receiving the application the Sanctioning Committee will<br />

respond to the Meet Director. When the Sanctioning Committee determines that<br />

the applying organization can successfully host a sanctioned event it will sanction<br />

the meet.<br />

A.4.5 If the host requests exceptions to these rules, or if after sanctioning is received the<br />

host does not follow these rules and the procedures of the Sanctioning Committee,<br />

then the Sanctioning Committee may deny or remove sanctioning, or in<br />

extenuating circumstances authorize exceptions to these rules or Sanctioning<br />

Committee procedures.<br />

A.4.6 When the Sanctioning Committee authorizes an exception to these rules these<br />

exceptions shall be clearly stated in the Invitation. In addition the Chairperson of<br />

the Sanctioning Committee shall notify the <strong>Orienteering</strong> <strong>USA</strong> Executive<br />

Committee and the Chairperson of the <strong>Rules</strong> Committee as to the exceptions that<br />

were authorized.<br />

A.4.7 Decisions of the Sanctioning Committee may be appealed to the Executive<br />

Committee of <strong>Orienteering</strong> <strong>USA</strong> by sending a letter stating the reasons <strong>for</strong> the<br />

appeal to the President of <strong>Orienteering</strong> <strong>USA</strong> and a copy to the Chairperson of the<br />

Sanctioning Committee.<br />

A.4.8 In the event the meet is sanctioned be<strong>for</strong>e the map is completed, the Event and/or<br />

Course Consultant will oversee and assist with the production of the map to<br />

assure it is suitable.<br />

A.5 Key Personnel<br />

A.5.1 The Meet Director is appointed by the host and listed on the sanctioning<br />

application and is responsible <strong>for</strong> overseeing all aspects of the event. The Meet<br />

Director shall insure that all the officials and assistants know and abide by these<br />

<strong>Rules</strong>. The Meet Director shall obtain all necessary permission from landowners,<br />

and <strong>for</strong>estry, state, and other pertinent officials and should aim <strong>for</strong> a good<br />

relationship with other users of the event site and site officials.
