he term water divining or<br />
dowsing is a misnomer, since the art<br />
is not restricted to water but may be<br />
applied to anything that lies buried<br />
under the ground. In general usage, it<br />
is referred to simply as dowsing.<br />
The history of the art is as old as history itself<br />
and has been brought to us down the centuries by<br />
engravings, oral instruction, woodcuts and more<br />
recently, though lithographs and photographs. In<br />
centuries past it was used to find all manner of<br />
things such as water, oil, treasure, missing persons<br />
(much in the same way as the pendulum is used),<br />
harmful radiation, lead (Chinese), tin (Cornwall)<br />
and much more. In fact anything we are seeking<br />
can, in theory, be discovered through dowsing.<br />
