In the present context of efforts to devel<strong>op</strong> accessible cost effective<br />

high-tech techniques for Earth Atmospheric observations of<br />

relevant parameters for climate triggering as aerosols and clouds or<br />

temperature and water vapor this paper is presenting the status of a<br />

LIDAR system devel<strong>op</strong>ment for profiling with high temporal (min)<br />

and spatial (m) resolution of aerosols and clouds pr<strong>op</strong>erties. The<br />

new up-gradable configuration of ESY LIDAR is based on a powerful<br />

Nd:YAG 30 Hz pulsed laser (35 mJ at 355 nm, 100 mJ at 532 nm,<br />

200 mJ at 1064 nm), a 40 cm Newtonian telesc<strong>op</strong>e and on an new<br />

<strong>op</strong>to-mechanics detection module built in an “eye geometry”<br />

considerations. As applications, temporal and vertical variation of<br />

mixed aerosol mass concentration, 3D monitoring of clouds,<br />

Saharan dust or volcanic ash, Planetary Boundary Layer (height,<br />

dynamics, structure), depolarization study (aerosols shape), antihail<br />

and fight against fire and droughts complementary tool or<br />

meteorological forecasting (i.e. using PBL).<br />
