New Candle
Hello friends,
On March 15 th , Salama celebrates on her birthday
as she completes three years of excellence
and innovation. A fourth candle of communication with
all friends in every school and home is lit in the path of
realizing the vision of the RTA in Dubai in providing Safe and
Smooth Transport for all.
Over the past three years, the magazine has witnessed a
remarkable development in terms of the number of pages which
reached sixty pages, enhancement of cartoon characters, and addition
of new characters, besides being published in both Arabic and
English languages to commemorate the completion of two years.
Today, after three years, Salama is proud of the achievements made,
thanking all for contributing to the magazine. Salama has managed to
make hundreds of friends in a short period, and communicate with a
large spectrum of the community, young and
old, as 10 thousand copies are distributed
at more than 154 points.
With the advent of the new year,
the editorial family of the
Magazine, confirmed that they
will continue their endeavours to
be in continuous pursuit of new
achievements that enhances the excellence
and leadership role of their magazine
among other specialized peers.
We congratulate you once again,
wishing you all and Salama a

Traffic Awareness at Gulf Motorcycles Festival
Traffic Department at RTA Traffic & Roads Agency participated in the Gulf
Motorcycles Festival, hosted by Dubai from (4 - 6) last February, and was represented
by Traffic Awareness Section, which participated in the motorcycles march and showed
up in the festival stand, which attracted thousands of visitors.
-* Before launching motorbikes march in Dubai Festival City.
* Traffic Awareness Stand received thousands of visitors;
Engineer Hussein Al Banna,
Director of Traffic Department,
reiterated the department is
committed to attend and take
part in all traffic events held in
the Emirate; which was in line
with its awareness and service
role towards the community.
He praised the efforts of
participants in the stand and
the march, calling on all to
contribute to the success of
traffic awareness programs by
adhering to traffic safety rules
and urging others to comply
with them.

He explained that Traffic Department
Stand at Traffic Motorcycles Exhibition
had shown manuals, brochures,
awareness posters about traffic safety,
pedestrian crossing, riding bicycles,
driving motorcycles, safety tips in rainy
weather, as well as distributing the
monthly issues of “Al-Masar”
Magazine and Salama Magazine. He
pointed out that the main objectives of
participation in the exhibition is to
reflect the role played by traffic
awareness supervisors in the stand by
responding to inquiries from
individuals, providing information and
data on traffic accidents and how to
avoid them, as well as explaining some
editions and how to benefit from them.
Al-Banna said, “RTA’s Participation in
the festival is not limited to the expo
only, but also operated the “Safety
Bus” in the motorcycles march, which is
one of the leading programs for Traffic
Awareness Section. The proceeds of
this march are earmarked for the
Center of Autism in Dubai. The number
of motorbikes that had participated in
the march exceeded 1400 bikes from
UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council
Countries. The bus toured along some
streets in the emirate before returning
to the starting point ((Festival and Expo
Site)) at Dubai Festival City. He added
that the aim of “Safety Bus”
participation is to draw the attention to
the importance of safety to road users,
especially children, as this bus is used
to educate school students on the rules
of getting into or of from the bus.
The Awareness Stand in the Gulf
Motorcycle Exhibition attracted
thousands of visitors who have
benefited from awareness-raising
publications, brochures and guidelines
prepared by the Section on the rules
of traffic safety.
* During the participation of safety bus in the motorcycles rally;
* More than 1400 motorbikes participated in the rally;
* Awareness publications distributed to children and adults.

Traffic Activities at “al-Ittihad” & “Nadd al-Hamar”

Ittihad 6th Festival 2010,
organized by Al-Ittihad
Private School in Dubai
during the period from (18
to 19 of last February).
During the event educative
publications & quizzes
were distributed as well as
applied demonstrations to
show the importance of
safety belt in cooperation
with the Emirates Driving * During the Traffic Awareness activities at Al-Ittihad School;
Institute.
The Section also participated in the “Traffic Awareness Project” organized by Nad Al-
Hamar School in Dubai, under the theme “My mother and I work for your Safety”. The
project included outside walk around the school in a proper traffic manner. Also Salama
Magazine and more brochures issued by the Traffic Awareness Department were
distributed. Students and mothers who participated in the walk recognized road signs and
guildlines related to Road Safety.

Subways and Footbridges for Pedestrians Safety
legant and beautiful pedestrian bridges in Dubai have become unique landmarks
in our beloved Emirate. They are made of glass, equipped with electric elevators
and escalators. They were designed and constructed according to the best-class
specifications and stringent safety and security standards.
Those bridges were built by Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, not to
decorate the streets of the emirate, but to protect pedestrians from the risks of
roads and run-over accidents.
There are currently 14 subways for pedestrian crossing in Dubai and 18
footbridges, including 5 glazed bridges constructed by the RTA over the past
three years. These tunnels and bridges spread all over the Emirate of Dubai,
particularly in areas of intensive pedestrian traffic such as abra area and Deira
Corniche. Abra underpass, which was established in 1988, and known as one of
the oldest underground pedestrian crossings in Dubai. It passes under Baniyas
Street, along with many other tunnels distributed on the Corniche in Deira, Bani
Yas and the trade centre.
And as tunnels and bridges need constant attention; therefore RTA designates a
department (Roads Maintenance and Facilities Dept.; to be responsible for the
maintenance and cleaning of tunnels and bridges, according to a specific
timetable. Some of them require daily maintenance; others require maintenance
once a week or twice a month.
We must all be careful of the maintenance of these tunnels and bridges; since
their maintenance and cleaning is a common responsibility of the RTA and all
members of community. Most importantly, we have to use them and benefit from
them when we need to cross roads.

every day before setting
off to his work early
morning.
Before my dad sets off to work, he goes to the
garage to do the following checks for his vehicle:
Dad and the rest of
my family use to woke up
early everyday to get ready
for school.
* Checks the engine oil as he replace it
every 3000 or 5000 km

He checks the transmission fluid, the water coolant
(radiator water),and make sure to change his coolant
and flush his radiator minimum every two years.
Though he check his car tires pressure and cars
manual to refill his tires accordingly.
He also ensure to check his car fluid
level.
and goes over this checklist daily
before driving confidently.
* Checks the battery, which is prescribed lifetime
must not exceed 3.5 years.

Health Corner
5 Nutritional Values
When it comes to food and drink, children are very
selective. That’s why their bodies may not get the sufficient
quantities of basic and essential nutrients. Therefore, they
must take some nutritious foods in their meals.
1. Calcium: Children need calcium to promote the strength of their
bones and teeth. Calcium is found in dairy products, broccoli, beans
and orange juice.
2. Plant Fibers: Fibers maintain the regularity of bowel movements
and help prevent diabetes. They can be obtained from fruits,
vegetables, whole grains and oats.
3. Vitamin A: This vitamin strengthens sight, which allows the
child to cope with changes in lighting between darkness and light.
It promotes the growth of flesh tissues and cells. It also helps to
strengthen immunity to resist diseases.
4. Vitamin C: Vitamin (C) enhances the strength of arteries and
gums, helps in healing wounds, resisting diseases and reducing
the severity of cold diseases.
5. Iron: Iron helps blood capacity to carry oxygen through
body cells and maintains the activity of the immune system.
Deficiency of iron can cause anemia and fatigue. Iron can be
obtained form from meat, chicken, fish and legumes.

The Floating Bridge
Engineer Salim accompanied his kids in a tour
to the Floating Bridge.
As shown kids, this is
the Floating Bridge across
Dubai Creek; which is just half
a kilometer to the South of
Al Maktoum Bridge.
This Bridge helped in reducing
traffic congestion by 37 per
cent.

The Bridge has
a capacity to handle 3000
vehicles per direction per hour,
specially during the morning
and evening peak hours.
How could
the moulds be
fixed in the
water dad
Though the movable
part of the Bridge, which
extends 300 meters, enables the
opening and closing of the
Bridge.
This is an interesting
question. Hallowed concrete
moulds had been used such that
they will remain afloat. The
Bridge measures 20 meters
in width.
Accordingly boats and
ferries movement has been
coordinated with the concerned
bodies to streamline their
navigation in Dubai Creek.

Formatting Table Borders Manually
Table layout aims to organize the table and give the user a chance to
see the division and structure of cells on the screen only. So when it
is necessary to show the table layout printed on paper, it is important
to use “Borders Formatting Tools” according to the following steps:
* Highlight entire table.
* Click on “Format”from the Menu.
* Click the command “Borders and Shading”.
A dialog box appears. You can format the table borders through the
following options:
Borders Type from the types listed under “Settings” Option.
* Border Shape from the shapes listed under “Style” Option.
* Border Color from the colors shown on “Color” Palette.
* Border Thickness or Density from the “Width” Box.
When you specify your preferred formats, click “OK” to find that the
table took the shape of the formats selected from the previous dialog
box.

Our friend the Elk has a mini restaurant inside the forest
that serves delicious foods.
One day the driver from the home-delivery
orders came in.
He has two employees; one of them was
a driver tasked with home-delivery orders.

After a while, the home delivery vehicle got into a car
crash accident, and when the police came in, he asked the
driver to submit all documents of the vehicle.
The elk listened to his friend advice and fixed a
sticker on the vehicle without seeking for an
official approval.
The elk repented as he
didn’t seek the official
approval.
He also ben asked for the official approval regarding the
fixied sticker onto the vehicle; which was not there
triggering the policeman to record an offense and issue
a fine ticket.

Vehicle tires
Welcome friends, We
have to be attentive to all
vehicle components, and do
a checklist for the vehicle
before starting it on.
One of the key
parts which have to be
checked to ensure their
validity are the tires.
Driving a vehicle with
improper or defective tires
is an offence resulting in a fine
of 200Dirhams and impounding
the vehicle for 7days.
We should also
check the air pressure to
ensure that it is optimum.
