<strong>Job</strong> Purpose<br />

To support teaching staff in providing an educational environment in which all pupils can<br />

develop to their full potential.<br />

Key responsibilities<br />

A. To support the teacher in the delivery of lessons.<br />

B. Work within the framework of school policies and procedures<br />

C. Develop positive relationships with colleagues by working effectively as a member of the<br />

support staff team.<br />

Key Tasks<br />

A1 To ensure that all materials and equipment required for demonstrations, lessons and<br />

practical work planned are available.<br />

A2 To assist teachers with lesson preparation.<br />

A3 To assist pupils with practical work during lessons when necessary.<br />

A4 To ensure that all equipment is kept in a good state of repair.<br />

A5 To clean equipment and machinery after use.<br />

B1 Provide relevant Health and Safety advice to staff and pupils.<br />

B2 Alert teaching staff to any potentially unsafe working practices<br />

B3 Ensure that confidentiality with regard to home/pupil/staff/schoolwork is maintained.<br />

C1 To be a member of the school support staff team.<br />

C2 Develop and maintain effective relationships with other professionals<br />

C3 Accompany pupils on school visits<br />

D1 Any other duties within the scope of the post<br />

Key Indicators/Performance Objectives<br />

1. To provide a comprehensive technical support service to all departments, ensuring that all<br />

requirements are met at the highest standard.<br />

2. To supervise, support and assist pupils in and out of the classroom under the direction of<br />

a member of the teaching staff.<br />

The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities contained in<br />

the Written Statement of Particulars.<br />

Participation in extra-curricular activities is voluntary but all staff members are encouraged to<br />

participate, lead and promote activities to build good relationships with young people and<br />

broaden their informal learning opportunities.<br />

All staff are expected to be familiar with and adhere to all school and partnership policies and,<br />

in particular, meet key requirements in relation to health and safety and teaching and learning<br />
