So You Want to Have a Happy New Year
by Pastor Frank Evans
People across the ages have tried numerous methods and rituals to try and have a better new year
than the last year, only to come up disappointed in their efforts. I believe that it’s simpler than we
could have imagined. Let me explain a few steps in what the Scripture says and it will make all
the difference in the world.
First of all we need to believe. We must put our belief (faith) in
the Lord Jesus Christ. “And my God shall supply all your need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19 NKJV). By
Believe
so doing, we will please the Lord. Hebrews 11:6 says, “ But without
faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently
seek Him” (NKJV). A rewarder When we place our faith in Him, it
releases the Lord to provide for us!
The second thing is to behave. “Stand fast therefore in the
Behave
liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled
again with a yoke of bondage”(Gal. 5:1 NKJV). We need to behave
and live our lives for the Lord according to Matthew 5:16: “Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven” (NKJV).
Thirdly, we need to beware of the devil. The old devil will be
coming after you! “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may
Beware
devour (1 Pet. 5:8 NKJV). Then, we need to beware of man. “Beware
lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit,
according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles
of the world, and not according to Christ” (Col. 2:8 NKJV). Also, we
have to beware of ourselves. “And He said to them, “Take heed and
beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance
of the things he possesses” (Luke 12:15 NKJV).
Finally, we need to belong. Everyone has a need to belong.
We need to make sure that we belong to Christ. “Yet to all who
Belong
received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right
to become children of God” (John 1:12 NIV). We also need to
belong to His church. Hebrews 10:25 instructs us: “Let us not give
up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching”
(NIV).
Try God’s principles and I am sure that His promises will never fail. “I will not violate my covenant
or alter what my lips have uttered” (Ps. 89:34 NIV).
May you have a Happy New Year and remain blessed in Jesus Name.
