5 th JUNE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY<br />

All school Eco-Clubs under the National Green Corps Programme are requested to observe the<br />

World Environment Day on 5 th June 2008.<br />

World Environment Day is celebrated each year on the 5 th of June. It is one of the year’s<br />

most important occasion for focusing worldwide attention on the environment. It is a people’s event<br />

with global participation. The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is “CO2,Kick the Habit!<br />

Towards a low Carbon Economy”.The host for WED 2008 will be New Zealand, with the main<br />

international celebrations scheduled for Wellington. New Zealand is one of the first countries to<br />

pledge to achieve carbon neutrality and will also focus on forest management as a tool for reducing<br />

green house gases. The day long celebration will feature activities for everyone in the family along<br />

with presentations by local and national organizations in the areas of food , shelter, education,<br />

energy, transportation, and public awareness.<br />

In the past years many eco-clubs celebrates the World Environment Day in various ways to<br />

create awareness about our environment. This year all the Eco clubs under the National Green Corps<br />

Programme are requested to take up appropriate programmes on 5 th June ic. World Environment Day<br />

to create awareness.<br />

World Environment Day can be celebrated in many ways, including street rallies, essay and<br />

poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more.<br />

On this World Environment Day, let us examine the state of our environment is in and<br />

consider carefully the actions which each of us must take, and then address ourselves to our common<br />

task of preserving all life on earth in a mood of sober resolution and quiet confidence.<br />
