for winning the Gold
A Journey
to Success
It is an awesome feeling when you receive something that you
work very hard for. On the sixth of July, 2011, the “Saring Himig Choir-
KSA” left Saudi Arabia for the 7th International Johannes Brahms
Choir Competition and Festival, which was held 6-10 July 2011 in
Wernigerode, Germany. I was one of the 20 members of this group representing
the Filipino Overseas Workers in Saudi Arabia. It made all of
us proud to represent Saudi Arabia in another land where people from
all over the world came together.

This was not the first time Saring Himig
Choir competed in an international
event; in fact, in October 2009, the
group participated in the 8th In Canto
Sul Garda Choir Festival held in Riva
Del Garda in Italy, where we won a Silver
Diploma. The group is a reflection
of its members’ aspirations in life.

Members of an organization become
the face of the company or the group
they belongs to; the trademark. That is
why it is very important to get to know
who you are dealing with in your day to
day life. Getting to know how to deal
with your team members is the core of
success.

Being in a group
or an organization

When we reached the competition venue,
people were wondering if we really
were from Saudi Arabia; they wondered
why we were not wearing the traditional
white thobe. That’s when they learned
that we were actually representing the
country we worked in, not our country
of origin.
It was a wonderful experience to have
joined an international event competing
against more than 40 groups from
different countries around the globe.
Our group, Saring Himig Choir-KSA,
competed in two categories: Folkloric
Category where we won a Gold Diploma
and the All Male Chamber Choir Category
where we received a Silver Diploma.
But of course, before achieving these
two diplomas, each group member had
to show some patience, discipline,
and dedication during practice and rehearsal.
The group focused on a single
goal: to get the GOLD diploma! And for
